2. Be mindful of how you portray yourself online.
This should go without saying, but you should be as careful with your social presence as you are with your public one. The way you speak and the content you share portrays your character to those who view your various social media channels.

Social media has a way of both inspiring and discouraging audiences. Scrolling through feeds of other people’s successes can either spur you on in your own endeavors or slow you down.

It is important to remember that what is portrayed on social media is never the full picture. While it is easy to share the high points of our day, the negative aspects are often left in the shadows.

Make a conscious effort to not let the seemingly constant successes of others hinder your own forward momentum. After all, you’re only seeing part of the picture. Also, know that envy is one of the seven deadly sins and although social media encourages it, you should not engage in it.

4. Balance your time on and offline.
With technology at our fingertips and social media readily accessible, it is easy to get sucked into mindless scrolling. Balance your time online so that you can put your time offline to good use.

While you can connect with friends and family online, don’t forget the importance of a phone call or a face-to-face interaction. Make sure to log off from time to time. Soft skills such as making conversation and eye contact are important; social media does not allow these skills to develop. Give the soft skills time too!
