The Health Benefits Of Luteolin

The Health Benefits Of Luteolin

We included Luteolin in our new Nervous System Multi for its array of health benefits.

Among the family of flavonoids, luteolin has a wide range of activities. Flavonoids are neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory.

They are antioxidant and are critical to control oxidative stress in the mitochondria and cells of the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Most flavonoids are considered to be antioxidants. The hydrogen atom from a hydroxyl group can be donated to free radicals for their neutralization. Luteolin is an aromatic compound and can support unpaired electrons.

Luteolin also is able to suppress ROS-forming oxidases. One example is the suppression of xanthine oxidase by luteolin and therefore fewer ROS in a cell.

Luteolin inhibits NF-kB signalling, TLR4 signaling and cytokine expression in mast cells. It reduces toxicity in neurons. It is able to inhibit ROS-induced damage of DNA, proteins and lipids in cells.

How Luteolin Naturally Reduces Inflammation

Luteolin regulates production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Luteolin has been used for the treatment of MS because of this and because it inhibits activated peripheral blood leukocytes isolated from MS patients.

Luteolin with quercetin was found to improve adaptive functioning of children with ASD.

Treatment with luteolin can decrease secondary brain injury of TBI as well.

Why You Should Take Luteolin With PEA

Luteolin is thought to work very well with PEA to fight neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. This coadministration has a superior effect than use of the molecules alone.

PEA and luteolin significantly decrease the neuroinflammation and apoptosis pathways. They modulate cytokine release and activation of astrocytes and glial cells, which decreases oxidative stress.

PEA and luteolin enhance expression of neurotrophic factors and enhance regeneration of neurons.

Those that have suffered a stroke that were treated with co-PEA/Luteolin also had gains in cognitive function, muscle spasticity improvement and mobility.

A Powerful Natural Supplement For Chronic Inflammation

Luteolin is able to cross the blood-brain barrier as well. Luteolin is involved in redox regulation, control of DNA damage and regulation of protein kinases and is used for cancer cell control; it has anticancer properties.

Luteolin suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha. This, in turn, suppresses the activation of the NF-kB and MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathways of inducing chronic inflammation.

Luteolin effectively suppresses inflammation of brain tissues and regulates the cell signaling pathways to the benefit of the cells.

This is just one of the ingredients found in our Nervous System Multi! Click below for natural relief from diabetic neuropathy:

Brain Support: Why I Take Omega-3 and Resveratrol Daily

dr warner meredith loves omega 3

WHY YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOUR BRAIN

Bind Heavy Metals, Suppress Brain Inflammation, & Protect Brain Mitochondria

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here:

For those that don’t know me, I’m an Air Force Veteran and have a private Orthopedic Surgery practice in Baton Rouge, LA.

As we age, our bodies slowly lose their function over time. Your brain is no exception to this rule. Losing cognitive function can result in dementia – and Alzheimer’s has been on the rise for the last 20 years.

Many factors contribute to poor brain health.

Things like diabetes, high blood pressure, and more can increase the risk of dementia. Anything that puts strain on the body, like injuries, poor lifestyle, lack of good sleep, and more can also impact brain health.

Brains are very sensitive to inflammation and as most of us exist with a state of chronic neuroinflammation, our brains are at risk of deterioration.

Mitochondrial damage and death is probably the source of all lifestyle diseases, including osteoarthritis; mitochondrial damage is a direct result of that oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.

“I designed this multi to combat nerve-based sources of pain and neuroinflammation specifically. There aren’t many natural options that exist for those suffering from conditions like neuropathy, and the pharmaceutical options that are commonly prescribed often have damaging side effects.” – Dr. Meredith Warner

Omega 3’s

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY & INFLAMMAITON RESOLVING

We all want to protect our brains as we age. So what can you do?

One of the best things you can do is supplement with nutrients that support the brain.

Here are a few I recommend. Let’s start with Omega 3.

Omega-3s maintain the nerve membrane and myelin sheath health. Myelin is the material that surrounds nerves and allows for efficient conduction of the electrical signal. Omega-3s help to keep the cell membranes of neural tissue flexible and this improves their function.

Omega-3 consists of EPA and DHA. EPA is involved in the functionality of a cell such as signaling. DHA is more important for the structural properties of a cell, such as the cell’s membrane. Both of these Omega-3’s are essential for better cell health in different ways!

It is well known now that the proper amount of Omega-3 as opposed to Omega-6 in our bodies and brains is important to reduce chronic inflammation. If Omega-3 is in the cell wall rather than Omega-6, not only is it more flexible – but it also produces less damaging inflammation.

Resveratrol

SUPPORTS MITOCHONDRIAL HEALTH

Resveratrol is known to be highly anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiapoptotic and anticancer. It attenuates mitochondrial impairment by stressors.

It upregulates mitochondrial antioxidant-forming enzymes and this decreases the load of ROS (oxygen reactive species) in the mitochondria. ROS are free radicals, which are produced as your body undergoes its natural processes.

But when your body cannot create enough antioxidants to neutralize free radicals like ROS, oxidative damage can occur.

ROS in your mitochondria can negatively impact the overall function of your cell, particularly the energy output. In addition to protecting mitochondria from damaging oxidative stress, resveratrol has also been shown to increase the production of mitochondria.

From mitochondrial health in the brain to frayed nerve endings, each ingredient in our surgeon-designed multi is handpicked to optimize nervous system health. Because of its highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients, our multi is an excellent choice for improving nervous system health.

Palmitoylethanolamide

NATURAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

PEA is naturally produced in your body to relieve inflammation. It’s part of your body’s natural response to protect itself from cellular damage, and when taken as a supplement gives you natural relief and protection without heavy medicinal fog.

PEA and the family of fatty acid ethanolamines (FAE) are involved in cell protection. They are part of the human’s innate system of endogenous protection from cellular damage. These lipid mediators are activated by tissue damage, inflammatory processes and nociceptive fibers.

PEA acts to restore cellular and mitochondrial balance. PEA offers a safe and natural method to manage neuropathic pain; it is tolerated very well and there are no known side effects. This is a naturally occurring lipid mediator that is an inflammation resolver.

Chlorella

REMOVES TOXIC HEAVY METALS

Chlorella is a type of algae and is often used for its cognition benefits with age and for weight control and cancer protection. It is known for its ability to bind heavy metals, which can produce free radicals that cause damaging oxidative stress.

We are exposed to heavy metals of a toxic nature by pollution of the air, ground, and water in our communities. Chlorella is also able to help lower levels of dioxin – a hormone disruptor found in many foods.

Chlorella species and other microalgae provide protection against neurotoxicity from metals like lead.

The antioxidants considered to be present in Chlorella are beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, vitamin C, and chlorophyll. These act to help reduce the presence of advanced glycation end products (AGE). This means that chlorella is powerfully antioxidant both in terms of its ability to provide antioxidants, and protect from oxidative stressors like heavy metals.

Luteolin

REDUCES BRAIN INFLAMMATION

Luteolin regulates the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It effectively suppresses inflammation within brain tissues and regulates cell signaling pathways for healthier and more efficient neural signaling.

Among the family of flavonoids, luteolin has a wide range of activities. Flavonoids are neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory.

Flavonoids are antioxidants and are critical to control oxidative stress in the mitochondria and cells of the central and peripheral nervous systems.

NAC – N-Acetyl L-Cysteine

ENHANCES ANTIOXIDANT PRODUCTION

NAC supports our internal systems that protect us from stress, infections, inflammatory conditions and heavy oxidative stress. It’s both a natural antioxidant and helps your body produce its own antioxidants, particularly glutathione – your body’s major naturally produced antioxidant.

NAC acts to detoxify our bodies and brains. Glutathione is depleted by toxins that enter the system. NAC provides for restoration of normal levels.

NAC provides extra protection to our brains and bodies by enhancing our natural antioxidant abilities.

Because of its ability to enhance antioxidant production, NAC is highly protective of our cells and cellular function.

5 Healthy Living Tips That Will Transform Your Life

5 Healthy Living Tips That Will Transform Your Life

5 Daily Habits

to improve your life & prioritize your wellness

Healthy living doesn’t have to consist of running multiple miles every day. While getting this much exercise is wonderful, living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be difficult or emotionally taxing. Here are five tips that you can easily blend into your day to promote wellness from the inside out.

1. Hydrate!
Just because you’ve had four cups of coffee today doesn’t mean that you’re properly hydrating. Make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water every single day! Start your day off with a full glass of water to kick your energy into gear and promote healthy skin and digestion.

Tea is also a great substitute if you need flavor. Avoid sugar in your tea and reach for honey to add a little sweetness. Tea is usually full of natural phytochemicals that are antioxidants.

2. Eat Plenty of Nutritious Foods

use food to fuel your well-being

While junk food is appealing, this won’t provide your body with any positive benefits. Fuel your body with nutrition. When meal planning, make at least half of your meals vegetable-based.

Pair a lean protein like fish or chicken with a large salad or roasted veggies. Fruits can help to curb your sweet tooth as well. If you avoid highly processed junk food long enough, you will no longer crave it.

As a rule of thumb, create a colorful plate. Foods of vibrant colors like eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and lemons are packed with vitamins and flavonoids!

Need some recipe suggestions? Check out our blog on the Mediterranean diet – and learn why it’s the diet Dr. Warner recommends most to her patients!

3. Add Some Simple Exercise To Your Day

form small, healthy habits

You don’t have to overexert yourself with daily exercise but rather be mindful of your daily choices. Adding activity can help your physical health, improve your quality of sleep, and boost your mood.

Rather than taking the elevator, choose the stairs. Stand more than you sit. Park towards the back of the parking lot when grocery shopping to get a few extra steps into your day. Incorporate exercises into your day that you can do at home, whether going for a walk or finding a yoga routine that helps to promote pain relief and strength!

Try out these easy at-home workouts to increase flexibility, burn calories, and boost stamina with ease.

4. Allow Yourself The Time To Rest

you can't pour from an empty cup

We all live busy lifestyles, and this can play a large role in both our mental and physical health. It is necessary to rest. Put your phone away and enjoy some much-needed time to yourself, whether reading a book, watching your favorite movie, or spending time with a craft that you enjoy.

Treat yourself to a warm bath and an early evening. Aim for a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night. Refresh the mind and the body so that you can be ready for the day and responsibilities ahead.

Treat your body well and if you have pain, address it holistically.

Use natural remedies under the guidance of your physician instead of resorting to costly and difficult-to-recover-from invasive procedures or heavy pharmaceuticals.

5. Spend Some Time Outside

give your body the natural vitamins it needs

Go outside. Fresh air and sunshine can have a much greater effect on your health than you realize. Just 30 minutes of vitamin D can provide your body with the nutrients it needs for a happier, more energized day.

The Best Ways To Use CBD Oil

The Best Ways to use CBD Oil

How to use our CBD Oil Tincture

and methods of application

Dr. Meredith Warner, Orthopedic Surgeon, designed this Broad Spectrum CBD oil tincture to be tasteless and contain cannabinoids – so you can harness all the benefits hemp-derived CBD oil has to offer, with none of the psychoactive properties.

Our Broad Spectrum CBD Oil is blended with MCT Coconut Oil to give you as much potency as possible, with as few ingredients as possible.

How to take CBD Oil:

topical applications

You can apply certain CBD oils topically, onto the body part of your choice. Its effects are localized to the site of application. You apply this by taking a small amount and rubbing it onto where you need it most – a sore shoulder, aching knees, etc.

Try an inconspicuous spot first, and start with a low dose, gradually building it up over time and according to your needs.

You’ll want to start off with a low dose to make sure you have no adverse reactions. This is uncommon, but it’s better to be safe. Wait to use it on more sensitive areas, such as your face in a face mask, for example, until you know how your body responds to it.

You may also wish to mix the CBD oil with a carrier oil like coconut to aid in absorption.

CBD, like essential oil, can have therapeutic benefits when used properly!

How to take CBD Oil:

internal applications

Some CBD oils, but not all, are suitable for ingestion. Be sure to check with the manufacturer to make sure you can add their CBD oil to anything you consume.

Taking CBD oil internally is simple! Put a few drops in your morning coffee or tea after it’s cooled, add it to lemon water for a pick-me-up, or mix it into a salad dressing. We recommend not putting CBD oil into a dish that would require high heat to make, such as baking or a sauteed meal. You can, however, put a few drops onto a dish right before you eat it, after it’s cooked.

Heating CBD oil can reduce its effectiveness and change the flavor, so we recommend mixing it into no-bake recipes if you want to cook with CBD.

How to take CBD Oil:

sublingual dose

We recommend taking our CBD Oil Tincture sublingually, that is, under the tongue. This is the fastest way to absorb the benefits of CBD, as holding it in the mouth, or “swishing” it around to coat the insides of your cheeks, is the best way to coat your mouth’s mucus membranes. This allows CBD oil to be absorbed into the bloodstream more efficiently, for maximum effects.

  • A serving size for our product is a dropper full. Shake the bottle well and then uncap it.
  • Fill the dropper, place it under your tongue, and depress the dropper.
  • Hold under the tongue and/or swish around in your mouth for 30-60 seconds.
CBD Oil Tincture by Well Theory

We recommend starting out with one dose a day and assessing how you feel. You may wish to increase the dosage to effect over time. A great time to take your CBD oil is right before bedtime, either sublingually or mixed with calming tea after it’s cooled.

For even more ease of use, try our CBD Softgels. These capsules contain 25mg of CBD and can be easily combined in your daily routine with other topical or oral CBD products and vitamins!

100% NATURAL PAIN RELIEF FOR PEOPLE WORLDWIDE

Why People Are Choosing CBD For Joint Pain Relief

Why People Are Choosing CBD For Joint Pain Relief

Joint pain can occur at any time and any age. You don’t have to have arthritis or any other joint-specific condition to get creaky knees, aching fingers, or a sore back. If you over-exercise and sprain the connective tissue that stabilizes the joints, you can get joint pain.

Autoimmune problems often cause connective tissue pain. Diabetes and other chronic diseases are well-known sources of pain; this is especially true for back pain.

If you sleep at an awkward angle, your neck and back will tell you with stiffness and pain. If you’ve had a “crick” in your neck, you’ve experienced joint pain – and you already know just how much it can limit your movement and daily activities.

Before reaching for NSAIDs or resigning yourself to staying sedentary with a heating pad all day, give a natural solution a try: CBD!

First, What Is CBD?

We talk a lot about CBD at Well Theory, and for good reason! But if you’re new here, you may not understand the hype yet. So here’s a quick recap:

CBD is a plant-based compound that is extracted most commonly from the industrial hemp plant. For decades, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the use of CBD due to its similarities with THC, a compound most commonly extracted from the marijuana plant.

THC is responsible for marijuana’s psychoactive effects, however - while CBD is a phytochemical also extracted from a cannabis plant, it will not get you “high.”

CBD has many proven holistic benefits. This is due to the way it interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid, or regulatory system.

This is the response system that is described as the “relax, eat, sleep, forget and protect” system. Essentially, it is responsible for signaling things like hunger, inflammation, relaxation, stress, and more.

What Is Good Inflammation?

Inflammation and stress may sound like bad things, but they play vital roles in your overall well-being. Inflammation is actually what drives your immune response, and it’s what helps protect any injuries from further damage.

Likewise, your stress response is also designed to protect you, by warning you of dangerous or otherwise harmful situations.

But there can be too much of a good thing, and when inflammation and stress become chronic, your health suffers. Chronic, long-lasting inflammation is one of the main drivers behind certain diseases like diabetes, heart disease, some cancers, and more. But in your day-to-day life, it may show up in the form of joint pain.

How CBD Helps Relieve Inflammation

CBD is a great supplement for joint pain and muscle recovery after hard workouts! CBD can bind to CB2 and other receptors within your endocannabinoid system.

CB1 receptors are found in places like your spinal nerves, and are associated with your body’s pain response; generally, THC binds CB1 receptors. CB2 receptors are found on your immune cells and throughout the remaining systems of the body, and are used to signal the inflammatory response.

Because CBD can bind to these receptors on white blood cells, it can relieve inflammation and pain to reduce joint and muscle soreness over time. You won’t feel the immediate relief that you would get with over-the-counter pain relievers, but those pharmaceutical options can do more harm than good.

Taking too many NSAIDs too often can result in damage to your gut health, causing irritation, nausea, heartburn, and more. NSAIDs also may have significant cardiac side-effects as well. This should be discussed with your physician if you are concerned.

CBD, however, has little to no side effects. It’s designed to work with the regulatory system that’s already in place – not against it. Natural medicines take time, but you won’t experience the harmful side effects you would normally get from a quick fix.

This can also help make injuries less likely to occur in the first place. Most of us are under constant attack by low-grade inflammation due to our diets, stressful work environments, and more. This inflammation normally can’t be seen or felt, but can lead to oxidative stress, which can result in things like fatigue and brain fog.

Taking a natural, plant-based supplement to gently and consistently improve your health over time is a great way to keep inflammation and pain in check.

These benefits can help you avoid fatigue, so, for example, you can have a more effective workout – reducing your risk of injury.

Our CBD Softgels are a great option for daily anti-inflammatory and antioxidant support!

Why The CBD Source Matters

Why The CBD Source Matters

CBD or cannabidiol has become one of the most popular alternative options for a multitude of health and wellness symptoms and conditions.

The CBD industry is growing faster than most legislatures and federal organizations can propose, pass, and implement regulations and procedures for ensuring quality sources, practices and products across the board. Currently, it is up to manufacturers and farmers to hold themselves accountable for the quality of their product.

Where Does CBD Come From?

Not all CBD is the same!

There are a lot of farmers growing hemp for use in the growing CBD industry due to the boom in popularity.

The farming practices that these farms implement directly affect the final CBD products you purchase in a store or online.

Pesticides, chemical fertilizers, heavy metal, and other harmful chemicals can stick around during CBD extraction processes and produce poor quality or even dangerous CBD.

It is important for these companies selling CBD products to be knowledgeable of the farmers they are buying their hemp from.

How Do You Know If It Is Quality CBD?

what you need to look for

Don’t buy your CBD from just anywhere. Look for the best CBD company you can find.
Check the company’s website and reach out to customer service!

A reputable seller will have information available about the CBD origins.

Don’t just take the company’s word for the quality of their CBD products.
A trustworthy CBD company will have third party quality testing results available.

These quality tests will determine the concentration of CBD and THC (must be <0.3% by FDA regulations) as well as the presence of any heavy metals or microbiological organisms.

Check Out Our Quality Testing Reports!

Companies that do not provide these third party test results could have higher or lower concentrations of CBD and THC and you would not know.

Take a look at the quality testing results for our CBD products here on our website!

How To Get Started Doing Yoga

How To Get Started Doing Yoga

Yoga combines breathing, body postures and meditation to promote relaxation and health. It can be life-changing for some practitioners, dramatically improving well-being in body, mind and spirit. However, getting started with yoga can be daunting for those who have never done it before. Fear not; it’s actually very easy to get started with these basic steps:

What You Need

for daily yoga practice

1. Tools You Need For Yoga

The good news about yoga is that it can be done just about anywhere. While a yoga mat is nice, it is not essential at first. Other tools you might consider having on hand as your practice progresses are a cushion, a block, a blanket and a yoga strap.

Recovery from practice should be part of your yoga routine as well. While you should not practice yoga to the point of physical pain, some poses may be challenging.

Instead of reaching for NSAID’s, try natural pain relievers. Tart Cherry Extract contains one simple, highly anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredient – concentrated tart cherry – for natural muscle and joint recovery.

2. Join A Class, Or Use Online Videos

Taking a yoga class or picking up an instructional DVD is another option toward getting started on the right path with yoga. There are also a number of free videos available online via YouTube and other video hosting platforms.

3. Focus On Breath Awareness

Breathing is an essential component of yoga and is key to gleaning the most healing benefits long-term. The breath draws in essential life force energy, or “prana” from the universe, nourishing the body and all its organs, cells and systems. Remember to inhale deeply and exhale mindfully throughout every phase of your yoga practice.

Simple Poses

you can start with today!

4. Start With Basic Yoga Poses

Yoga has some foundational poses that can be done by just about anyone, and they’re a great way to dive right in and get started with your practice. A simple beginning yoga routine might include:

Sukhasana Pose
Sit cross-legged on the floor, hands on knees, spine straight, and breathe deeply and mindfully; feel the nourishing prana energy fill your core and radiate throughout your organs and limbs.

Cat-Cow
Get onto your hands and knees with knees under hips, wrists under shoulders, back flat. Inhale while dropping the belly toward the floor and looking up; hold cow pose for a moment, then exhale while pulling the back upward and arch it like a Halloween cat. Repeat this pose slowly and deliberately, inhaling for cow pose and exhaling for cat pose.

Downward Facing Dog
Begin on hands and knees just like cat-cow. Inhale while straightening the legs with feet flat on the ground, feeling the extension in the back of the legs. Spread fingers apart, tuck head downward, and engage the front part of your thighs. Continue to breathe deeply and mindfully as you hold the pose for as long as you wish.

Inverted Lake Pose
This pose involves laying near a wall and placing the legs vertically upward against it, allowing for more blood flow to the torso and head and promoting a range of cleansing and circulatory benefits. Lay on a firm pillow pressed against the lower back/upper glutes.

Swing the legs upward so that they are flat against the wall as you lay facing the wall, lower back and glutes on the pillow. (You may use a small pillow for your head if you wish.) Extend arms outward and enjoy the circulatory stimulation of this pose while breathing deeply.

Yoga offers tremendous benefits to the body, mind and spirit, and is beneficial to practitioners at every level. Get started with these tips today and be well on your way to a fulfilling practice.
