Rapid and shallow breathing can accompany anxiety. Asthma will often worsen with anxiety.

How The Immune System Is Impacted

Adrenaline triggered by anxiety is also the same hormone triggered during a ‘fight-or-flight’ response. 

Adrenaline increases the pulse and breathing rate, bringing more blood and oxygen to the brain, which in long-term cases can weaken the immune system and make you more vulnerable to viral illnesses. 

Like most functions in the human body, a little is good and too much is bad. Adrenaline in small doses for good reasons is beneficial; chronic production and release of this hormone is bad for long-term health.
