Are CBD And Hemp The Same?

If you’ve started researching taking CBD products, chances are, you’ve seen products like “CBD Oil” be called “Hemp Oil” interchangeably.

Is there a difference between CBD and hemp? If so, what are they? That’s what we’ll be talking about today:

What Is Hemp Oil?

To understand the difference between CBD and hemp oil, first, you need to understand what hemp oil is. “Hemp oil” generally refers to “hemp seed oil.”

Hemp is a relative of the marijuana plant, but contains little to no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Industrial hemp plants have been specifically bred to produce almost no THC. THC is the psychoactive compound in marijuana that makes you high.

Hemp seed oil is extracted from processed hemp seeds, and has a variety of uses – from cosmetics to food additives, to natural medicinal therapies and more. Hemp seeds do not hold any of the CBD associated with the industrial hemp plant.

Hemp seeds are very nutritious and some consider them a superfood, but they do not have CBD in them. This is why hemp seed and hemp seed oil is not as regulated as oil extracted from the rest of the industrial hemp plant.

Hemp oil can also be extracted from the stems, leaves, and flowers of the cannabis plant – hemp oil extracted from these parts of the plant will contain more CBD than hemp seed oil.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD, on the other hand, contains that specific compound that can be found in the leaves, stems, and flowers of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The best source of CBD remains the buds of the plant.

While hemp oil can contain CBD, CBD oil contains extracted CBD only. It’s only produced from the leaves, flowers, and stems of the plant, unlike hemp oil, which can also be produced from the seeds of the plant.

It is important to note if your ‘hemp’ oil is made from seeds or from other parts of the plant.

Because of this, most CBD products are derived from the hemp plant. However, even then, there are different extraction types of CBD that you should be aware of.

Our CBD products range from Full Spectrum CBD, which contains beneficial terpenes and cannabinoids present in the hemp plant aside from the CBD compound, to pure CBD Isolate, which contains only CBD and no other compounds.
