Your Essential Guide to Vitamin K2 with Meredith Warner, MD

Daily Support For Improved Brain, Bone & Heart Health

Dr. Meredith Warner’s Vitamin K2 + Olive Oil Softgels are formulated to promote strong bones through improved calcium absorption and increased bone density. Vitamin K2 and extra virgin olive oil are also super heart-healthy in their ability to clear clogged arteries and improve circulation.

Vitamin K2 naturally occurs in domestic farm animals like poultry, dairy cows, and pigs. This essential nutrient was inadvertently removed when these animals were moved from pastures into industrialized feedlots. Thus, most people are deficient in Vitamin K2, which has caused a serious impact on our health.

  • Bone Health: promotes bone density and strength, reduces the risk of osteoporosis and fracture risks
  • Heart Health: reduces arterial calcification and reduces the risk of heart disease and overall mortality
  • Calcium Support: activates osteocalcin to promote calcium binding to the bone mineral matrix
  • Arterial Blood Flow: improves blood flow and circulation and keeps arteries more flexible and responsive
  • Blood Sugar: improves insulin resistance and reduces the risk of type-2 diabetes
  • Brain Health: recent studies highlighted Vitamin K involvement in brain cells development and survival and promote proper brain function.

“After the age of 50, unfortunately, your bone breakdown happens faster than your bones can form. Vitamin K, specifically the Vitamin K2 present in our Bone & Heart Health Supplements, is essential for osteocalcin synthesis, which promotes calcium binding to your bones, while also activating GLA proteins that inhibit that calcium from accumulating in your vascular structures.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Why does your supplement combine Vitamin K2 and Olive Oil?

A: Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin. We combined K2 with Olive Oil to increase its ability to absorb in the body. Olive Oil is also a heart-healthy fat that has anti-inflammatory substances that reduce CRP inflammation markers.

Why You Should Start Cooking With Olive Oil

Q: Should I take Vitamin K2 with a Calcium supplement?

A: Vitamin K2 assists your body in absorbing and putting calcium where it is needed. Calcium likes to accumulate on blood vessel walls. Vitamin K2 can block calcium from entering and adhering to the blood vessels.

Osteoporosis 3 Stages on white background

Q: Does Vitamin K2 really increase bone density?

A: Yes! Vitamin K2 is essential in osteocalcin synthesis in the body. Osteocalcin promotes the binding of calcium to your bone mineral matrix structures to increase bone density.

warfarin tablet packs

Q: Can I take Vitamin K2 if I’m on Warfarin (Coumadin)?

A: Those taking the medication Warfarin (Coumadin) should only consume Vitamin K2 supplements after consulting with their healthcare provider as it can decrease the effects of the medication.

Q: What Are MK-4 and MK-7?

A: MK-4 (Menaquinone-4) and MK-7 (Menaquinone-7) are both natural forms of Vitamin K2. They can be found naturally in eggs and dairy products like milk and cheese.

A Powerhouse Supplement For Muscle Recovery & Inflammation Support

Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Meredith Warner, LOVES TART CHERRY! She developed these tart cherry supplements for those looking for natural pain relief without NSAIDs and recovery for overused muscles and joints.

Daily Recovery For Joints, Muscles & Inflammation.

  • Pain-Relieving: promote muscle health and recovery with daily supplementation
  • Antioxidant-Rich: increase antioxidant capacity and fight off free radicals
  • Inflammation-Reducing: block the same anti-inflammatory enzymes as over-the-counter pain relievers
  • Gout? Arthritis? Intense Workouts?: This is your go to supplement for relief and recovery
  • Support Exercise Performance: Helps promote healthy blood flow

Tart Cherries are packed with anthocyanins! Anthocyanins possess antioxidant properties and offer powerful support for promoting rapid muscle recovery. These are completely natural molecules found in some colorful fruits that provide amazing benefits for the human system.

“I learned about Tart Cherry a decade or more ago. Tart Cherry is an awesome basic anti-inflammatory and it reduces oxidative stress. Today, most of our chronic diseases in the Western world - Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Connective Tissue Disorders, Autoimmune Disorders, Pain, and Osteoarthritis - a lot of these are really caused by the lifetime accumulation of low-grade chronic inflammation and oxidative stress.”

I started waking up with swollen fingers on both hands. I could hardly bend my fingers. I don’t know what suddenly caused this. I read about the Tart Cherry Extract and decided to give it a try. I am no longer experiencing swelling in my fingers. I take one capsule in the morning after breakfast and one in the evening before bedtime. I’m a believer!

-Deb P.

I have extensive arthritis throughout my body- but especially bone on bone knee pain. I have been through the gamut of treatments the Dr’s can give me, with them calling for knee replacement. But since Taking the Tart Cherry the pain, knee giving out, and swelling have disappeared. I actually went off it for a few months just to see what would happen- and of course eventually all the disabling facets re-presented themselves, and once again disappeared once I began taking the Tart Cherry again. I will never be without it again! It makes all the difference in my mobility and quality of life. My disabling hand arthritis issues have disappeared as well.

-Jacqueline C.

I use both of these supplements for osteoarthritis in my hip which has become increasingly more painful and limiting my mobility. The pain was throughout my hip, groin, leg and foot making it difficult to walk very far or sleep. After 2 months of these products, the pain in my leg is gone and my mobility is better. I will stop my prescription anti-inflammatories and continue with these supplements.

-Sandy R.

I love it. It really helps my inflammation.
After 3 months. I went to my dr. Had my inflammation levels tested.
They were down to a good level. He was pleased. I’m sad But,I just can’t afford it on a regular basis. Great product.

-Jacqueline G.

Helping with inflammation in the lower legs. Helps keep Gout away. I love it for that reason.

-Debra C.

So far it has been good. Bought it mainly for help with inflammation; I have not had to take as many aspirin or painkillers since I started on it. The greater thing about it though is I’m sleeping so much better! Have stopped my melatonin completely and am getting a good night full of restful sleep!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Is Tart Cherry Like An NSAID?

A: Tart cherry extract acts on the COX2 enzymes, but it is not an NSAID. It acts like an NSAID, but does not have the same side effects as NSAID pain relievers. These natural medications work in a more gentle manner and without the large and aggressive single molecule effects of an NSAID.

An NSAID is a synthetic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.

COX2, which tart cherry acts upon, is just an enzyme along the inflammatory pathway.

Q: How Much Can I Take Each Day?

A: There is no known upper limit for Tart Cherry. Dr. Warner recommends taking 1-2 capsules a day (1500-3000mg). It’s best to pay attention to how your body responds. As always, check with your physician if you have specific questions about your body.

Tart Cherry Being Poured Into Hand

Q: Can’t I Just Drink The Juice Or Eat The Cherries? Is there Really A Difference?

A: To consume about 80mg of anthocyanins (the plant compounds in tart cherries that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects) you would have to consume about 100-120 cherries. This is typically supplied by 16 to 24 ounces of a tart cherry juice blend, one ounce of liquid tart cherry juice concentrate, or 400 mg of tart cherry juice concentrate in tablets or capsules. To get the same amount of anthocyanin intake from a concentrated product, like our capsules, you only have to consume about 400mg of tart cherry extract. Drinking fruit juice exposes you to very high levels of concentrated fructose and this should be avoided.

Our Tart Cherry extract capsules contain 1500 mg of extract!

cherries and cherry juice

Q: How Does Tart Cherry Help With Gout?

A: Cherries and cherry juice relieve gout, which is caused by uric acid crystals in the joints; the same uric acid that may can cause kidney stones. Tart cherry juice is high in potassium, antioxidants and anthocyanins, chemicals that prevent uric acid from forming into crystals. The anthocyanins allow the mitochondria to function more efficiently and remove fructose from the bloodstream prior to its conversion to uric acid. The flavonoid also reduces the activity of xanthine oxidase, an enzyme in the pathway to create uric acid.

Q: Does Tart Cherry Really Help With Sleep?

A: Tart Cherries are a natural source of melatonin, a popular natural sleep aid. Our Tart Cherry Extract Supplement contains about 0.1mg of melatonin per serving.

IT WORKS!

I bought this for my husband to try. In December 2021 he finally went to the doctor to find out what was causing extreme pain and swelling in his fingers and wrists. Advanced osteoarthritis was the diagnosis. Prescription Celebrex and turmeric were suggested, but not very effective. I saw the ad for the special blend of turmeric in this product and ordered it. After one month, the pain and swelling has significantly reduced! Thank you!

Keeps Me Playing Pickleball

I’ve only been using Turmeric w/ PEA for about 4 months. But, I feel it is already helping with my knee pain. I’m 68 years old and I play 4.0 pickleball tournaments. I feel Turmeric w/PEA is helping me stay on the court!

Very Helpful

I have been able to tell the difference in less aches and less difficulty getting up and down from a chair.

First timer – it Works Great

Never tried any turmeric product before. The reviews made me want to try. I had been suffering from sciatic nerve pain for 2 years and it was getting worse. I did not want to use ibuprofen for what I thought was a long term problem, so I tried your joint therapy with the tumeric and ginger. The pain diminished within an hour and steadily decreased with everyday use and now 3 months later it is gone. I am continuing with it to avoid a return of my symptoms.

-Landa C

Now I am sure….

When I did my first review, I said I wasn’t sure if the product was effective because I hadn’t been on it very long and didn’t want to stop taking it to see. Now I am sure – it is a GREAT product! I got lax, then forgetful about taking it and it wasn’t very long, and I was in more pain than I had been when I took them regularly. The restful sleep I was getting was gone and I had more pain and mobility issues during the day. Won’t let that happen again!.

-Darlene M

Joint Health

Excellent. I suffer from liver and kidney disease so I can’t use standard pain meds for my severe osteoarthritis. After seeing your reviews I decided to try the ginger and turmeric joint health. Along with the CBD multivitamins you sent with my order, my OA symptoms have greatly improved. I shared my experience using your product with my kidney doctor and he has suggested that other patients use it too. Thank you for developing these great supplements. I was a Hospice nurse for 35 years and wish I had access to your products for my patients. I believe many disease processes and various types of pain could be managed with your products without the side effects of narcotics.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What Is The Daily Recommended Amount of Turmeric?

A: Most research suggests that daily doses of 500-2000 mg are effective. Dr. Warner chose a daily dosage of 1000mg as a moderate dosage for long-term use. This dosage is most compatible with most people due to turmeric’s tendency to cause stomach upset. This is why our formula also includes piperine to increase turmeric absorption and ginger to mitigate stomach upset and heartburn.  We recommend taking the Joint Health Multi with some sort of fat (milk, egg, yogurt).

Q: Does Turmeric Cause Stomach Upset?

A: It is possible! Dr. Warner recommends taking the Joint Health Multi with a meal! Taking medicines, supplements, and multivitamins with meals helps reduce the possibility of stomach irritation that can lead to indigestion.

Curcumin is a fat-soluble substance found in turmeric. If you just take it with water, you probably are not absorbing the full dosage intended.

Taking our Joint Health Multi with a full meal that includes some form of fat will help your body absorb the turmeric and curcumin more efficiently. Whole or reduced-fat milk or yogurt are great items to provide such fats in your meal!

Essential Guide to Joint Health Multi - Jar On Table

Q: Does The Joint Health Multi Help With Arthritis Joint Pain?

A: This multi contains turmeric, piperine to help bioavailability, ginger, and PEA for a powerful anti-inflammatory boost. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a natural and powerful way to manage pain, inflammation, and damage from oxidative stress. PEA is made in a similar way in humans and in plants, and it can be isolated from peanuts, soy, egg yolks, and other food sources. It’s also made within your body to naturally regulate pain and inflammation.  Most people simply lack enough PEA to control inflammatory pain.

Q: Does It Fix Bone-On-Bone Arthritis?

A: For bone-on-bone arthritis, the ingredients in our Joint Health Multi will not regrow cartilage – your best option for that would be adult stem cell therapy, PRP injections, and other regenerative medicines.  That said, the pain from being ‘bone on bone’ can absolutely be managed with methods like natural supplements.  If the pain is managed, the clinical entity of ‘bone on bone’ becomes much less relevant.

Additionally, we would suggest our article about bone on bone health, where we’ve included a video from Dr. Warner addressing surgery concerns.

Our product helps reduce inflammation and pain in and around the joints, and may slow the loss of cartilage by doing so – but only regenerative medicine, or transplants,  can repair lost cartilage. We would recommend seeking a second opinion if you are concerned about having surgery, and work with a physician to explore your best options for restoring function in your joint. Our products can work alongside these measures to holistically reduce pain and improve range of motion!

Q: Does Turmeric Affect Kidney Function?

A: Curcumin/turmeric is generally safe to consume and would not cause any damage to the kidneys. However, for a person who is prone to develop kidney stones, eating a lot of turmeric may increase the chances of developing kidney stones.  But isolated curcuminoids do not have the same effect for kidney stones.

The reason for this being the high amount of oxalate present in turmeric. The oxalates are soluble in nature which means that they bind with calcium which results in the development of an insoluble form of calcium oxalate which deposits to form stones in the kidney.  Generally, there is little or no oxalate in a curcuminoid extract. Our Joint Health Multi is a 95% curcuminoid extract.

People who already have kidney stones or are susceptible to developing kidney stones are recommended to keep their turmeric intake to the utmost minimum.  That means eating less curry, but taking an extract with simply the active ingredient should be OK.

Essential Guide to Joint Health Multi - Tart Cherry Extract & Joint Health Multi Jars On Table

Q: Is Turmeric Okay If I Have Liver Problems?

A: In certain doses, these supplements containing turmeric or curcumin (the primary active ingredient in turmeric) may be beneficial for liver detox and improved function. In cases of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, curcumin supplementation has been shown to reduce liver fat content. There aren’t any consistent cases displaying liver damage as a result of appropriate turmeric supplementation.

Turmeric supplementation is rarely cause for concern. These rare cases of turmeric supplementation associated with liver damage or other concerns, are the result of extremely high doses of turmeric, over long periods of time. This is simply not the case with our Joint Health Multi, which falls within a safe range for daily use (take as suggested). A beneficial amount of turmeric lands between 500-2,000 mg per day.  Tolerable doses have been documented as high as 12 grams per day for 3 months.  Our Joint Health Multi contains 1,000mg of turmeric per daily serving. Actually, our Multi is 95% curcumin, which is the active ingredient of the turmeric root.  Even so, it was formulated with safety in mind.

Curcumin inhibits nuclear factor-kappa-beta (a pro-inflammatory modulator).  Curcumin is also a potent antioxidant.  Curcumin is thought to actually attenuate the liver damage associated with toxins, iron overdose, gallstones, etc.  Curcumin has been studied many times with regard to how beneficial it is for liver cancer, liver damage, heavy metal liver damage, etc.  As always, if you have liver damage, you should speak with your treating physician prior to taking any supplements to augment your current treatment plan.  We are happy to note more and more work is being done in the basic science of how curcumin helps the liver.

Science-Based Benefits Of Green Tea Extract

Science-Based Benefits Of Green Tea Extract

Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant – the same plant as black tea and oolong tea. You might know about some of its health benefits, but want to know more.

These are some of the known benefits to green tea extract.

Benefits of Green Tea

It’s rich in polyphenols that can reduce low-grade inflammation and promote general health. Polyphenols are compounds found in plants that are full of antioxidants.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals that cause oxidative stress and damage cells. One of the antioxidants found in green tea is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a catechin that naturally prevents cell damage. It is estimated that catechins account for 75% of the polyphenols of tea.   In plants, this functions as a protection from harsh UV rays and pollution over time.

Thanks to the antioxidants found in green tea, some studies show it can also be beneficial for reducing the risk of certain types of cancer. The polyphenols function the same way in humans as in plants, they function as a protector from oxidative stress.

Free radicals form from exposure to radiation, UVB rays, pollution and metabolic activities.  Too many free radicals can lead to oxidative stress, which results in chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation can contribute to the development of certain cancers like breast cancer and prostate cancer.  Catechins also have benefits for preventing or reducing skin damage.

Green tea is beneficial for brain health by boosting your cognitive function and protecting it from aging.

Green tea contains caffeine, a natural stimulant that’s been shown to help with mood, reaction time and memory. Green tea has less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee, but it also includes L-theanine.

L-theanine is an amino acid that can reduce anxiety, while increasing dopamine levels and enhancing alpha waves in the brain. Caffeine and L-theanine in green tea work synergistically, providing more consistent energy and productivity levels.

Green tea can also help protect neurons in your brain, reducing your risk for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

It can help you burn fat and lose weight by boosting your metabolic rate.

Studies also show that green tea may also increase insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels, helping to reduce your risk of type-2 diabetes

Studies also show that green tea is able to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It can improve your overall cholesterol levels and prevent LDL (bad) cholesterol from oxidizing (worse) in the blood.

All these factors together can increase your mental and physical longevity.

Brain Booster Series

Well Theory’s Brain Booster Series aims to improve your short-term and long-term cognitive function.

Our Energy Brain Booster contains caffeine, which as mentioned above, can improve your energy, attention and learning capacity and mood. This supplement also contains Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR), L-Tyrosine and three different types of mushrooms that can improve your general mental function.

The Focus Brain Booster includes L-theanine, which reduces stress alongside Ashwagandha and other neuro-protective ingredients. Not only does this supplement protect against high stress levels, but it helps you stay on track and focus on the task at hand.

How CoQ10 Can Promote A Healthy Lifestyle And Optimal Aging

Why NAD+ Is Important To Increasing Longevity

Why NAD+ Is Important To Increasing Longevity

How CoQ10 Can Promote A Healthy Lifestyle And Optimal Aging

At Well Theory, we believe in living a full and active life, for as long as possible. That’s why we’re here to address small steps you can take to help achieve this goal.

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is an essential part of all living cells and their biological processes. It sounds like a scary chemical, but is actually in nearly every cell in your body naturally.  But what is it exactly, and how does it help?

What Is NAD+?

NAD+ is a coenzyme that’s involved in many of your metabolic processes, making it vital to energy production and cell health. It can be found throughout the body, especially within the mitochondria, cytoplasm and nucleus of cells. It’s essential for two major functions for our bodies:

  • Converting food into energy
  • Regulating cell functions

Within the body, NAD+ helps two protein groups referred to as PARPs and Sirtuins. These proteins need NAD+ to function appropriately. Sirtuins specifically help regulate cellular homeostasis, making it vital for healthy cellular function and longevity. PARP plays a critical role in the DNA repair pathway.

As vital as NAD+ is for the body, it naturally decreases as we age.

Two Senior Women Exercising on Training Machines

This is why it’s important that we find ways to increase our levels of NAD+. This will allow us to maintain a greater cellular function, preventing a decline in health throughout the body.

Supplementing For NAD+

You can increase your levels of NAD+ by supplementing with a precursor molecule to NAD+, like nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN).

Supplementing with NMN has been shown to improve mitochondrial function, preventing cell damage and death.

It’s also been shown to reduce age-related conditions by suppressing gene expression changes, increasing energy generation, insulin sensitivity, and lipid metabolism.  NMN has also been shown to be helpful for improving eye function, immunity, and bone density.

Supplementing with NMN has also been associated with a decreased risk for neurodegeneration and metabolic diseases, while improving the overall health span.

These are some of the reasons that Dr. Meredith Warner wanted to include NMN in Well Theory’s Longevity Series. Alongside Berberine and Resveratrol, NMN can improve cellular health and possibly slow down or reverse aging at the cellular level.

The Best Supplements For Cell Health

The Best Supplements For Cell Health

Woman Running With Dog

We often think about our health from a reactive point of view, but we can prevent a lot of pain down the road if we’re proactive about our health. Being proactive is always the smartest way to be when it comes to your brain and body (in our opinion of course).

Living with your future health in mind includes exercising, eating right, sleeping, and supplementing with antioxidants that enable cell health.

Antioxidant Benefits

Antioxidants are a powerful force within the body. They neutralize free radicals that lead to oxidative stress and chronic, low-grade inflammation.

When the body’s cells are damaged by free radicals, it makes you more susceptible to diseases.  This happens through a variety of ways, from destruction of the cell membrane to damage of your DNA.

Therefore, antioxidants can help prevent diseases that are commonly associated with aging like arthritis, cancer, and cognitive decline.

As you get older, your body’s natural production of antioxidants goes down, making it even more essential that you consume a healthy diet, like the Mediterranean Diet.

Chickpea & Veggie Salad

Antioxidants found in plant-based sources can be highly beneficial, and should be eaten when possible. However, even with the best diet, it can be difficult to get the appropriate amount of nutrients for your long-term health.

Well Theory Antioxidant Supplements

Well Theory offers a range of antioxidant supplements aimed to reduce oxidative stress and promote cell health.

Free Radicals & Metabolism Pterostilbene Multivitamin Heart Health and Reduces Oxidative Stress

One of our newest supplements, Pterostilbene is a powerful antioxidant that can improve your metabolism and decrease joint pain. It also provides heart health benefits by improving cholesterol and blood pressure. It also boosts the effects of NMN, which can aid in longevity.

Oxidative Stress: CoQ10+ Gummy Supplement

Our CoQ10 Plus Gummies promote cell health with a few antioxidant ingredients – CoQ10, Tart Cherry Extract and Chaga Mushrooms. These are beneficial for post-activity recovery and reducing muscle cramps associated with taking statins. CoQ10 is produced naturally within the body, but decreases as you get older.  CoQ10 is also diminished in those taking statins.

Resveratrol Revitalize Cells & Hearth Health

Resveratrol is a part of our Longevity Series for its ability to activate AMPK, improving cellular energy production and mitochondrial health. It’s also highly anti-inflammatory, reducing neuroinflammation and promoting heart health.

Tart Cherry Extract Supplement for Connective Tissue & Anti-Inflammatory: Jar

Our Tart Cherry Extract is highly beneficial for inflammation and pain relief. It acts in a similar way to NSAIDs, but in a more gentle manner. Tart cherries are natural antioxidants, and this extract provides all that without the sugars and bitter taste associated with whole fruits and juice.

Tart Cherries In Bowl With Leaves

You’re looking to reduce inflammation and pain, and you’ve heard about Tart Cherries, but you’re not sure where to start. Whole fruit, juice or supplement?

Ideally, we get our nutrients from whole foods, but tart cherries can be difficult to come by. And when you do find them, you’ll have to eat a lot – over 100 cherries daily to feel the anti-inflammatory benefits. That equals about 400mg of Tart Cherry Extract.  A single cup of the juice could provide about 60mg.  There can be about 30 or 40mg of anthocyanins in each 100 grams of the fruit.  Some studies report even more, about 300mg of the phenols.

Benefits Of Tart Cherries

Before we dive into the debate of juice versus supplements, let’s look at the many benefits associated with tart cherries. Studies show that in high doses it is beneficial for relieving joint pain associated with arthritis, and improving the condition of other health concerns:

  • Decreased oxidative stress
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Muscle soreness
  • Sleep
  • Cognitive function
  • Cardiovascular health
Tart Cherry Juice & Cherries

Tart cherries are a natural antioxidant supplement that helps the body neutralize free radicals. This is what allows for a decrease in oxidative stress, which promotes overall cell health.

They also work in a similar way to NSAIDs, without the associated negative side effects by blocking the same COX-2 enzyme along the inflammatory pathway.  The process by which natural polyphenols achieve this result is different from synthetic drugs.

So, Juice or Supplements?

Tart cherry juice and supplements are the more efficient methods to consume a beneficial amount of tart cherry extract. But which one is better for your overall health?

Tart cherry juice may seem like the preferred option, but most juice you’ll find has added sugars to improve the naturally bitter taste of tart cherries. Including sugar as an ingredient in the juice actually works against the naturally anti-inflammatory benefits – so this may not be the best option for those looking to reduce inflammation.  Even if there are no added sugars, juice is just fructose without fiber by definition and this should be avoided.  If you’re not getting the fiber you would find in the whole fruit,  the benefits of juice are slim compared to a supplement.

With a supplement, you get the concentrated form of tart cherries, without the sugars, bitter taste and in higher doses.  In our opinion, this is the best option.

Our Tart Cherry Extract is offered in 1500mg capsules, a higher dose that allows for the health benefits listed above. With all the time you’ll save not eating hundreds of cherries, you can play with the kids, ride a bike, or simply enjoy a walk that isn’t bogged down by pain.

Signs Of Serious Back Problems

The Link Between Metabolic Health & Aging

The Link Between Metabolic Health & Aging

Signs Of Serious Back Problems

When you think about getting older, do you imagine physical decline and poor cognitive health?

It’s okay, most of us do. However, at Well Theory, we want to be perfectly clear – getting chronologically older is out of our control, but aging is largely in part, a matter of consistent lifestyle choices.  It is exciting to know that your chrono-age does not need to match your bio-age.  Many people that live healthy lifestyles, manage stress and sleep well are biologically younger than their actual birthday-based age.  This has been proven with DNA methylation studies.

Your Metabolic Health Plays A Key Role In Aging

This may not come as a surprise, but the United States does not rank well among countries with higher life expectancies. Areas like Okinawa and the Mediterranean region are much higher.

This can be largely attributed to their lifestyle parameters and choices that focus around diet, stress, sleep, social interactions, and exercise. These play a key role in metabolic health.

Note that your metabolic health is measured by many doctors with five markers: blood sugar, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, blood pressure and waist circumference.

When your blood sugar levels remain at a steadily high amount, you can develop insulin resistance, which is associated with poor mitochondrial health. As the “powerhouse” of the cell, your mitochondria produce the energy that powers biochemical reactions within the cell making it vital for cell health and longevity.

When the cells are damaged, this can trigger an inflammatory response that creates a constant state of low-grade inflammation throughout the body. This leads to diseases we typically associate with age, but should instead be associated with this inflammatory response – arthritis, dementia, etc.

Having poor metabolic health can also lead to a number of diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Ways To Improve Metabolic Health

You can improve your metabolic health by implementing positive, consistent lifestyle choices. As we mentioned before, diet and exercise play a huge role in maintaining health.

You may feel that implementing an exercise routine is a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. You’ll want to get at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity throughout the week for maintaining metabolic health. This may sound like a lot, but let’s break it down.

150 minutes can be spread out into 30 minutes over five days, and can be broken up into even smaller chunks as you adjust to new forms of exercise or movement.

Walking for ten minutes after each meal can be effective, while helping with digestion.

You can also implement cycling, swimming, yoga, or resistance training. Just find a workout that works best for your schedule (preferably one you enjoy) and stick to it.

Person Grabbing Knee in Pain

Not only is yoga a great form of exercise, but it also encourages mindfulness and provides a level of stress relief.  Yoga is great for strength and flexibility.  Some types of yoga can put you into zone 2 for cardio, but most will not.

Reducing stress levels is also vital for improving metabolic health. It’s one of the reasons Dr. Warner is a big advocate of the Mediterranean Diet.

With the Mediterranean Diet, you’re encouraged to share meals with family and friends, thus improving our relationship with food in this communal setting.  Cooking with real ingredients in the home is also a form of task-based mindfulness that will promote stress reduction.

The types of foods you eat with the Mediterranean Diet are also beneficial for your overall health. It focuses on vegetables, fruits, fatty fish or seafood, nuts, legumes, whole grains and other unprocessed foods. It also places emphasis on healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil.

This makes the Mediterranean Diet rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, benefiting your cell and metabolic health.

Supplements For Metabolic Health

Even with the best diets, we can miss out on essential nutrients, which is why it’s important to supplement our diet for longevity.

Berberine: Longevity Series - Active AMPK, Metabolic Health Supplement Jar

Berberine is an excellent supplement that has been discussed alongside the 60-year-old prescription drug Metformin in its ability to increase insulin sensitivity and reduce blood glucose levels. It’s also been shown to improve all five markers of metabolic health.

Well Theory’s Vitamin K2 + Olive Oil supplement promotes heart health and arterial blood flow. Not only that, but it can increase insulin sensitivity as well as improve bone health.

Omega-3 Dietary Supplement for Joint, Brain, & Mood Health

Omega-3 is highly anti-inflammatory and relieves inflammatory pain much like NSAIDs, but without the negative side effects. Omega-3 fatty acids are also more flexible as building blocks for cell membranes than are the more common Omega-6 fatty acids.  Filling your cellular membranes with these flexible  molecules can help you age optimally.
