5 Things To Know About Oxidative Stress & Free Radicals

5 Things To Know About Oxidative Stress & Free Radicals

Free radicals come from the normal metabolic processes of our cells.

For example, we use oxygen, in combination with food, to form energy that our cells can utilize. The chemical processes that achieve the formation of energy take place in the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the engines of the cell and are responsible for many baseline functions of life.

When we breathe, we gather oxygen in the lungs and this is dispersed to all the cells of the body by way of circulation (blood flow). The oxygen combines with fuel (food) to form usable fuel for the cells.

When the cells use this oxygen to form energy, free radicals are formed. This is due to adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production by the mitochondrial engine.

The by-product of this process are free radicals.

1. What Causes Oxidative Stress?

Free radicals are a normal part of life. The chemical process of fuel production is called cellular redox. We mostly think of free radicals as ‘bad.’ However, free radicals are beneficial to the cells, but only in small amounts.

Larger amounts of free radicals are damaging and are the actual source of what is called ‘oxidative stress’. In small amounts, the by-products of cellular redox systems can help cellular responses and immune function. But at oxidative stress levels, cell structures are damaged.

Oxidative stress plays a large role in what we call ‘lifestyle diseases’. These include cancers, arthritis, aging, autoimmune disorders neurodegenerative problems, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

So, in theory, if we can manage our free radicals properly, we can prevent or manage these diseases.

2. What Are Free Radicals, & What Do They Do?

A molecule with one or more unpaired electrons is called a free radical. These are formed from the breakup of a chemical bond. Each fragment of the formerly bound molecules keeps one electron.

This happens during aerobic respiration in the mitochondria and also from enzymatic processes during cell functions. Radiation and toxins can also cause these molecules to split and form free radicals.

Free radicals can also come from immune cell activation, excessive exercise, ischemia, infection, aging, cancer and inflammation.

Air and water pollution, cigarette smoke, heavy metals, some drugs and alcohol can also cause free radicals to form.

Read More: How Pollution Causes Oxidative Stress

3. How Oxidative Stress & Free Radicals Are Connected

The excessive free radicals and oxidants cause oxidative stress. This is when normal cells are destroyed by the radicals.

Other structures like proteins, lipids, lipoproteins, and DNA are also targets of excessive ROS. The free radicals cause oxidation of normal structures. This means that an electron is stolen from the normal structure to complete the pair of the free radical.

Remember that the free radical is a byproduct and consists of a molecule with an unpaired and lonely electron. Electrons are negatively charged structures. The electrons want to exist with a partner, to form a pair.

The free radical will take this pair from the closest or most convenient source. Too often, this is a normal and needed structure in your body. Oxidation of DNA causes mutations. Oxidation of cell membranes will destroy them. Oxidation of proteins changes the structure in a bad way.

4. How Does This Affect the Body?

The human body has a system in place to keep a proper balance of reactive oxygen species or free radicals. We use antioxidants to achieve this goal.

The antioxidants attach themselves to the free radicals and neutralize them before they can cause damage. Antioxidants are either produced by the human body or brought into the human body through diet or supplements. It is possible to enhance immunity and prevent cancer and degenerative diseases if this balance is in place.

Antioxidants exists to neutralize the free radicals. The antioxidant takes the free electron and sequesters and controls it.

We make our own antioxidants. However, due to diet, stress, lack of sleep, pollution and lifestyle we do not make enough and at the same time produce more free radicals than the human body should.

This is why antioxidant supplements are crucial for long-term health and optimal aging.

How To Cook With CBD

use these tips to incorporate CBD into your daily life:

CBD has been taking the medical and wellness communities by storm, and that has resulted in a rapid influx of commercially-made products – from vitamins, to gummies, ingestible oils, and even cosmetics, CBD has arrived on the commercial market and it’s here to stay.

More people are choosing to include CBD products in their daily routines as supplements, but what if you could incorporate it into something you do every day – by using it in your meals?

While it does take longer to feel the effects of CBD when it’s eaten, the effects are known to last longer. The ingredients in edibles are released slowly into the system as it is digested, and remain steady over the course of digestion.

CBD oil is most often used in edibles. These oils are usually Full Spectrum, which means they contain all the beneficial compounds of the industrial hemp plant, including trace (legal) amounts of THC or Broad Spectrum, which contains all the beneficial compounds except THC. CBD is one of the many naturally-occurring chemical compounds found in the flowers and leaves of cannabis plants.

Unlike THC (the psychoactive element of cannabis,) CBD cannot get you high. It does, however, have proven anti-inflammatory, pain-fighting, and anxiety-reducing properties.

When small doses are taken daily, a slow, natural, and steady return to hormonal balance and overall well-being can occur. Including CBD in a ritual you complete at one to three times a day is a great way to get the dosage you need – without interrupting your daily routines.

How To Cook With CBD

The first thing you have to remember when cooking with CBD is that you shouldn’t actually “cook” it in the traditional sense. CBD has been shown to lose its efficacy when it’s heated. Therefore, it is not recommended as a cooking oil – you should not use it while sauteing, baking, boiling, or frying anything that requires it to be heated over 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

CBD will begin to break down and evaporate anywhere from 320-350 degrees, so while you can heat it somewhat, it is not recommended. CBD oil is commonly described as an “earthy” tasting olive oil that gets more bitter when heated – so be careful with how much you use and how much you heat it.

It’s best used as a finishing oil or in dishes that don’t require heating to be prepared – such as smoothies, pestos, and salad dressings.

Cannabinoids bind well to fat and oil-based ingredients - so use it with some sort of grease or fat. This way, you can take full advantage of the benefits in your CBD oil.

Less Is More

Again, CBD is not psychoactive and has few, if any, negative side effects. Even so, it is important to start with smaller doses to see how you respond – and consult with your physician to make sure it will not interact with any medications you are taking.

Because CBD is a supplement and not a heavily standardized medication, some trial and error is necessary – your experience will be different from anyone else’s.

Thankfully, CBD is a forgiving compound. Just remember that less is more, especially if you are new to supplementing with CBD.

Another great way to start getting CBD into your diet is through taking a supplement. We developed our CBD Softgels to give you a potent, fast-absorbing source of CBD in a standard dose.

Quercetin: The Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Aging Nutrient You Need To Start Taking Now

Quercetin: The Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Aging Nutrient You Need To Start Taking Now

At Well Theory, we’re passionate about discovering, and sharing new ways to help you live well. We formulate our products with effective vitamins, supplements, and more to give you a holistic alternative to heavy pharmaceuticals.

Generally speaking, an ideal diet and perfect exercise routine are best for optimal health, but we have known this is not achievable for most of us. Therefore, supplementation plays a role in supporting optimal aging and better wellness.

Today, we’re going to talk about quercetin (kwur·seh·tn) – what it is, what its benefits are, and why we decided to include it in our product line.

What Is Quercetin?

Quercetin is a type of polyphenol – these are micronutrients found in plants that have highly antioxidant properties.

This particular micronutrient is found in dark or brightly-colored fruits such as apples, and in berries, like raspberries, and cherries. Maybe there is something to the old saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’!

As an antioxidant, quercetin has the ability to help you naturally relieve oxidative stress by clearing out free radicals. When left unchecked, free radicals can wreak havoc on your body, damaging cells and causing symptoms like headaches, fatigue, restlessness, and more.

Read more: 5 Signs You’re Experiencing Oxidative Stress

In addition to its antioxidant properties, quercetin also boasts anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and even immunity-boosting benefits.

The Anti-Aging Benefits Of Quercetin

One of the most exciting benefits of quercetin is its powerful anti-aging benefits. It has the ability to affect genes that regulate cellular metabolism and the removal of damaged cells. It does so by activating the enzyme AMPK. This enzyme “may modulate multiple longevity pathways to promote healthy aging,” according to this study.

In addition, its anti-inflammatory properties also double as anti-aging benefits as well! Inflammation is a normal part of your body’s processes – it’s what protects us from injuries as they’re healing, and what your body harnesses to fight off infection.

But if inflammation gets out of hand and becomes chronic, it can damage virtually every part of your body – from your gut to your brain, to your joints, and more. In fact, most diseases seen as we age can be linked to chronic inflammation.

Unchecked inflammation can negatively impact your mobility and overall wellness and speed up the aging process.

Many of us aren’t getting enough quercetin in our diets to really harness these benefits. Thankfully, it’s possible to supplement your quercetin intake! Our Herbal Immunity Defense contains quercetin, and other ingredients like organic elderberry, to help up your antioxidant intake, provide anti-inflammatory support, and enhanced immune defense.

How Elderberry Extract Boosts Immunity

How Elderberry Extract Boosts Immunity

At Well Theory, we strive to find and share natural ways you can live well – with better health, more mobility, less stress, and better overall wellness.

There are many ways you can improve your health. Every aspect of your lifestyle and habits affect all different areas of your well-being. From the amount of sleep you get to the food you eat, the amount of stress in your life, and more, all of these factors can impact your physical, emotional, mental, and even spiritual health.

One essential part of your physical health is your immune system. When your natural immune function suffers, you get sick more easily - which can have a domino effect on all other aspects of your health. This seems obvious, but for some reason, many forget the all-important role of our human immune system when fighting disease.

Many people are at a loss when they set out to improve their immune health. There are many ways you can boost immunity – through better sleep, regular exercise, etc. But sometimes, supplementation is not only necessary, but an excellent way to restore and support your body’s natural defenses.

Try This Supplements For Better Immune Health

Elderberry (usually Sambucus nigra) is a natural supplement that has been used to fight off illness and ease cold and flu symptoms for many years. Elderberry can refer to several different varieties of the Sambucus tree, which is a flowering plant belonging to the Adoxaceae family. The tree flowers with small clusters of white or off-white flowers, and then produces dark blue or black berries in bunches.

These berries are very tart – generally, elderberry is cooked and available as a supplement as a processed juice, extract, or dehydrated supplement. As with most berries and other colorful fruits and vegetables, there are large amounts of beneficial anthocyanins within the skins.

Most of the plant has purported medicinal benefits. Historically, the flowers and leaves of the elderberry tree have been used for pain relief and to reduce inflammation.

The berries of the elderberry tree are most well-known for their healing benefits. Elderberries have extremely high vitamin C content – and are rich in flavonols and anthocyanins.

Flavonols are antioxidant plant compounds often found in dark-colored fruits - it’s what gives elderberries their rich pigment. One of the main flavonols present in elderberries is quercetin. Quercetin is highly antioxidant - which means that it can neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and its corresponding inflammation.

How It Reduces Oxidative Stress

When you get sick, lack restful sleep, or have a poor diet, your body struggles to break down certain compounds fully – such as the oxygen you breathe. When oxygen molecules are broken down, free radicals are released – and as they scour through the body in search of molecules to pair with, they can damage cells and cause inflammation, exhaustion, headaches, and more.

Read More: 5 Signs Of Oxidative Stress

In addition to being a great source of antioxidants, quercetin has also been shown to help reduce inflammation, allergy symptoms, and blood pressure – giving your body the break it needs to restore vital immune function.

Because of this powerful ingredient and its high vitamin potency, elderberries have been shown to reduce the severity and length of flu-like symptoms when taken regularly.

In an animal study, elderberry polyphenols (phytochemicals like flavonols) have been shown to increase white blood cell counts. So, in addition to supporting immune health by inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress that bogs down healthy immune function, elderberries have been shown to directly improve immune health.

Why An Orthopedic Surgeon Takes A Supplement To Boost Her Immunity

Why An Orthopedic Surgeon Takes A Supplement To Boost Her Immunity

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here –

The events of 2020 have shown us that prioritizing your overall health – especially your immune health – is more critical than ever. Your ability to fight off illness and infection quickly, with as little downtime as possible, depend on the health of your immune system and how strong your overall wellness is. You won’t hear about this a lot, but there are ways you can empower yourself to have a more robust immune system.

Many of us aren’t getting the essential nutrients we need to keep our bodies prepared for cold and flu season. Ideally, we should get all the vitamins and minerals we need to keep our immune systems in top shape, but supplementation is an excellent way to fill those nutritional gaps. It is challenging to eat a proper diet in today’s world; we know this. Supplementation is a convenient method to fill the gaps in your diet and nutrition.

Going into this year’s flu and cold season, I wanted to make sure that my family and I were ready for seasonal illness. Because I like to support my body naturally, I started researching natural supplements that I could begin taking and offering to my family. As I searched for the best immunity-boosting natural supplements, I happened across the following ingredients; please allow me to share my opinion of these fantastic natural remedies:

The Ingredients In Our New Herbal Immunity Defense Multivitamin

Echinacea Purpurea
Echinacea is a North American flower in the sunflower family. This potent botanical supports the immune system by supporting the regular activity of white blood and natural killer (NK) cells and increasing the overall number of useful white blood cells. These cells are essential in fighting off illness.

Olive Leaf Extract
This extract has been shown to have high antiviral and antimicrobial properties. This means that it can interfere with bacteria and viruses’ ability to replicate, spread, and cause infection. This ingredient helps to control viral load, and this allows your immune system a better chance.

Garlic
This spice – which you probably have in your pantry right now – has been used for its antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties for hundreds of years. Because of these properties, like Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic can help the body destroy and/or inhibit viruses and other microorganisms before illness sets in.

Schisandra
I chose this herbal ingredient due to its boosting and balancing effects. This plant is used as an “adaptogen” – it increases your body’s resistance to disease and stress, boosts energy, and increases endurance. Essentially, adaptogens are a natural substance that helps the body adapt to stress and exert a “stabilizing” effect on bodily processes – promoting balance. This herb stimulates the immune system to work harder and more effectively to fight off an illness at the onset of infection.

Pine Bark Extract
Pine Bark Extract is a potent source of Vitamin C and contains an array of beneficial phytochemicals highly antioxidant. Suppose you are out of shape, exposed to pollution, or undergo stress regularly. In that case, your body produces an excess of free radical compounds that can cause cellular damage throughout your body – Such free radicals can destroy a cell’s wall or membrane, for example.

By damaging white blood cells, such compounds can weaken your immune response. This phenomenon is known as “oxidative stress,” and over time, it can wreak havoc on every one of your body’s processes. Pine Bark Extract’s high antioxidant content helps remove this stress naturally, giving your immune system a fighting chance.

Instead of taking these supplements separately, I decided to develop a multicomplex that contained full amounts of each ingredient – and used it to build my new Herbal Immunity Defense multi.

Designed To Support Your Immune Health - Naturally

This multivitamin is designed to support your immune health on multiple levels. It aids your body fight off infection and illness by directly increasing the number of white blood cells (especially of the innate system), decreasing oxidative stress, and boosting + enhancing your immune system’s function overall. The ingredients I chose for this multivitamin are designed to improve your health in the following two ways:

First, it helps reestablish and restore your immune system’s healthy, natural function by filling nutritional gaps and relieving oxidative stress.

Then, as you continue taking it, this multi helps support your immune function by giving your body an added boost of nutrition, antioxidants, and powerful antimicrobial and antiviral ingredients.

At Well Theory, our goal is to help you curate a happier, healthier version of yourself – through products designed to help bring your body back in alignment with how it was always supposed to function. We believe that illness, disease, pain, and inflammation don’t exist in a vacuum – every ailment is connected to multiple factors that you can take charge of and adapt to.

In my clinical practice, I’ve learned that making intentional choices about the foods you eat, the environment you live in, and the amount of exercise you get can significantly improve your overall health. As a surgeon, I know that there are appropriate times to use pharmaceuticals and more invasive procedures to improve mobility and wellness. Still, in many cases, my patients have experienced significant improvement in their health and outlook on life with simple, progressive lifestyle changes.

Since its development, I take this Herbal Immunity Defense multi every day and have found that it helps stave away the common seasonal illnesses my family and I typically experience.

I hope that you’ll find this natural option for immunity enhancement is beneficial in your life as it has been for mine.

Why This Surgeon Takes Tart Cherry Extract Every Day

Why This Surgeon Takes Tart Cherry Extract Every Day

Tart Cherry Extract:

why this orthopedic surgeon takes it every day

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here:

Tart cherry extract is a convenient and low-calorie way to obtain all the benefits of the tart cherry fruit. It is possible to eat tart cherries and to drink tart cherry juice of course, and I do that occasionally too. But to take a standard amount of tart cherry extract without unhealthy added sugars, I’ve found that a supplement is the best way to take it.

Tart cherry is one of the best natural anti-inflammatories and antioxidants there is. These benefits are specific to tart cherries – not sweet ones. You won’t get these benefits from Bing sweet cherries. Tart cherries usually make your mouth pucker when you eat them. These are the cherries that are traditionally used for cherry pies.

Tart Cherries:

why they're naturally anti-inflammatory + antioxidant

Dark-colored fruits have been found to reduce stress-mediated signaling in animal microglial cells. Microglial cells are support cells for the nervous system – these are the cells that carry pain signals from an injury to the brain, giving you the sensation of pain.

The nervous system is the brain and all of the peripheral nerves along with the spine. By supporting the function of the nervous system, I feel that I am supporting my brain’s health and reducing my chances of having everyday pain.

Pain is normal of course and is part of life, but if I can take a natural and healthy supplement to tamp that down, why wouldn’t I?

Oxidative Stress

what it is + how it impacts your health

Oxidative stress occurs when your body has difficulty breaking down free radicals. For example, when you breathe in, oxygen molecules are broken down. When unpaired electrons, the building blocks of molecules, are released during this process, they can wreak havoc on the body. Your body naturally releases antioxidants to capture these electrons, but a variety of factors can impact your body’s ability to create them. Lifestyle choices, environmental factors such as pollution, and more can impact this process, causing oxidative stress.

Read More: What Is Oxidative Stress?

Oxidative stress in the brain and nervous system leads to pain, decreased cognition and a decline of motor abilities over time. The body has a certain capacity to combat oxidative stress, but this decreases with age along with the lifestyle factors mentioned above. Worse still, oxidative stress generally increases as we age. Therefore, anything that helps us to fight oxidative stress should be explored and considered in my opinion.

Polyphenols, chemicals found naturally in plants, provide such defenses for us. Polyphenols are plant-based compounds that are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Tart cherries have polyphenols that are considered helpful in halting the negative effects of aging.

Tart cherries also have an abundance of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are a polyphenol class and are usually responsible for the rich coloring of fruits and berries. Cyanidin is one of the most plentiful anthocyanins in tart cherries. Tart cherries also produce flavan-3-ols and flavanols. These compounds allow tart cherries to reduce inflammation and to decrease oxidative stress in the brain and throughout the body.

How Oxidative Stress Impacts The Nervous System

“My goal is to help people age better, age fitter, and enjoy their old age. We’re all going to get old. You can’t stop that

Meredith Warner, MD

When assaulted, cells in the nervous system and in the body have an increase in oxidative stress and inflammation. Markers of this stress are NO, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).

Tart cherry can decrease nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression. In studies that induce inflammation in animals, those pre-treated with tart cherry powders had decreased levels of NO, TNF-alpha and COX-2.

These are just a few reasons why I choose to take a tart cherry supplement every day and recommend it to many of my patients who are looking for less invasive ways of managing their pain. I especially recommend tart cherry supplements to patients struggling with gout, as it has also been shown to help with gout flares; this powerful + natural remedy reduces the damage and pain associated with gout.

Tart cherry has also been found to reduce pain in fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and also in situations with induced oxidative stress and muscle damage. This means that while tart cherry is a great option for treating certain diagnosable conditions, it is also great as a daily supplement to address pain after exercise and other mild aches and pains.

I take tart cherry daily because it has such overwhelming anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities I feel that it will certainly help me to age optimally.

This is why I decided to develop my own Tart Cherry Extract supplement – to give you the same benefits I enjoy every day.

Dr. Warner’s Well Theory Self-Care Routine

Dr. Warner's Well Theory Self-Care Routine

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner Here –

As an orthopedic surgeon, I lead a pretty active lifestyle – seeing patients, developing new Well Theory products, and more. This means that when I engage in self-care, it has to be both an intentional choice and fit seamlessly into my often-hectic lifestyle.

I think that most of us probably struggle with balancing work, life’s many difficulties, and a well-rounded self-care routine – so I’ve decided to share what my usual, daily self-care routine looks like, so you can get a few ideas to incorporate into your day as well.

Morning Self-Care Routine

My mornings usually start early. Generally, I’ll try to get some light exercise in, like a few sun salutations, then move on to breakfast and my supplement regimen. I truly believe in the importance of taking a good, well-rounded multivitamin. I do my best to eat nutritious meals so most of my key vitamin intake comes from the food I eat, but to ensure I’m not missing out on key vitamins and minerals, I reach for one of my multivitamins.

My CBD Multi contains clinically high doses of vitamins I always recommend to my patients. I decided to develop this multi based on the recommendations I have always made to my surgical patients during their pre-op and post-op consultations. The best way to prepare for surgery is to make sure your body is primed to heal efficiently and quickly – and the best way to ensure that happens is through proper nutrition.

This multi contains Vitamins C, D3, Zinc, Magnesium, and others to support healthy immune function, bone regrowth, healthy joints, and more. It also contains Full Spectrum hemp-derived CBD powder for an added anti-inflammatory and antioxidant boost.

My PEA Multi Is another great option for your daily multivitamin intake. It too is a source of high-potency vitamins and minerals – and contains PEA for anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, and neuroprotective benefits.

PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) also stimulates the endocannabinoid system.

When I choose to take the PEA Multi, I’ll usually also add a few drops of my CBD Oil Tincture to a morning smoothie to get that added boost of CBD, as I’ve found it to be beneficial.

All of my products have zero THC or below the threshold for industrial hemp (0.3% total).

Afternoon Self-Care Routine

After my day begins, it’s usually nonstop until I get home. As a surgeon, I work a lot with my hands – in the actual operating room, typing up patient records, etc. I’m also on my feet most of the day, so I’ll usually experience a little soreness in my hands, wrists, and feet. Surgeons are particularly prone to neck pain.

I’ve found my CBD Spray Lotion to be beneficial throughout my day. When I notice that my fingers hurt from working on legions of medical records, or I have a chance to sit down and feel some soreness in my ankles from standing on my feet most of the morning, it’s easy to spray the lotion exactly where it hurts, and because of the Lidocaine and Menthol, the relief is instant.

And I know that throughout the day, the blend of essential oils and CBD Isolate in the formulation will work to continue relieving my pain as the day goes on.

Evening Self-Care Routine

As I wind down for the day, I make a conscious effort to put away glowing screens and relax. My eyeglasses are all blue-blocking; that is they all block the harmful spectrum of light called ‘blue’. The right amount of sleep, and the right quality of sleep, are essential parts of maintaining your overall well-being.

If you’re wondering what new habit you should undertake to start improving your health, getting better sleep is absolutely where I recommend starting. When you wake up with more energy, you’ll be able to start new routines later – good sleep should be the foundation of your wellness routine.

To ensure that I get restful sleep, I usually use these three products:

First, these CBD Softgels are a great option for ensuring restful sleep. They provide a convenient way to get a standard dose of CBD – these softgels are easy to take and are tasteless, so you can take them right before bed. CBD has long been known to be a great stress reliever and relaxation agent. Additionally, it is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants; the brain can only detoxify during sleep, why not enhance that function?

My Pain Relief + Recovery Cream has become my go-to pain reliever at the end of the day. This cream is designed to be used anywhere where there’s soreness – elbows, knees, shoulders, neck, and more. I’ve found that it’s helped relieve tension and ensures that I don’t have too much trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. This is especially helpful for my neck soreness that happens when I forget to do yoga!

For the massive antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, I take tart cherry (1500mg) each night also. I take this to protect my brain and nerves, general wellness, and optimal aging.

Tart cherry extract is extremely beneficial for general wellness and is an excellent source of pain relief for those with arthritis.

Adapting My Self-Care Routine:

Sometimes, it becomes essential to adapt your self-care routine as your daily schedule changes – or even as the seasons change. When the cold and flu season rolls around, I add in the Herbal Immunity Defense multi to help boost my immune system and restore its function – to give my body a fighting chance against viruses and allergies. I am a front-line health care worker, so I also take a flu vaccine every year.

During the winter months, I also tend to struggle with my energy levels as the days get shorter. In addition to taking one of my multivitamins, which are both high in vitamin D for better energy in the morning, I’ll make sure to add more CBD into my evening routine to ensure restful sleep – so I can wake up feeling more refreshed.

It’s important to leave room for growth and change when starting new habits. Give yourself grace if you miss out on exercising one day, have a cheat meal, or forget to take your vitamins. Investing in your overall wellness means investing in the whole of your being – mental, physical, emotional, and even spiritual – so be kind to yourself.
