Why An Orthopedic Surgeon Takes A Supplement To Boost Her Immunity

Why An Orthopedic Surgeon Takes A Supplement To Boost Her Immunity

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here –

The events of 2020 have shown us that prioritizing your overall health – especially your immune health – is more critical than ever. Your ability to fight off illness and infection quickly, with as little downtime as possible, depend on the health of your immune system and how strong your overall wellness is. You won’t hear about this a lot, but there are ways you can empower yourself to have a more robust immune system.

Many of us aren’t getting the essential nutrients we need to keep our bodies prepared for cold and flu season. Ideally, we should get all the vitamins and minerals we need to keep our immune systems in top shape, but supplementation is an excellent way to fill those nutritional gaps. It is challenging to eat a proper diet in today’s world; we know this. Supplementation is a convenient method to fill the gaps in your diet and nutrition.

Going into this year’s flu and cold season, I wanted to make sure that my family and I were ready for seasonal illness. Because I like to support my body naturally, I started researching natural supplements that I could begin taking and offering to my family. As I searched for the best immunity-boosting natural supplements, I happened across the following ingredients; please allow me to share my opinion of these fantastic natural remedies:

The Ingredients In Our New Herbal Immunity Defense Multivitamin

Echinacea Purpurea
Echinacea is a North American flower in the sunflower family. This potent botanical supports the immune system by supporting the regular activity of white blood and natural killer (NK) cells and increasing the overall number of useful white blood cells. These cells are essential in fighting off illness.

Olive Leaf Extract
This extract has been shown to have high antiviral and antimicrobial properties. This means that it can interfere with bacteria and viruses’ ability to replicate, spread, and cause infection. This ingredient helps to control viral load, and this allows your immune system a better chance.

Garlic
This spice – which you probably have in your pantry right now – has been used for its antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties for hundreds of years. Because of these properties, like Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic can help the body destroy and/or inhibit viruses and other microorganisms before illness sets in.

Schisandra
I chose this herbal ingredient due to its boosting and balancing effects. This plant is used as an “adaptogen” – it increases your body’s resistance to disease and stress, boosts energy, and increases endurance. Essentially, adaptogens are a natural substance that helps the body adapt to stress and exert a “stabilizing” effect on bodily processes – promoting balance. This herb stimulates the immune system to work harder and more effectively to fight off an illness at the onset of infection.

Pine Bark Extract
Pine Bark Extract is a potent source of Vitamin C and contains an array of beneficial phytochemicals highly antioxidant. Suppose you are out of shape, exposed to pollution, or undergo stress regularly. In that case, your body produces an excess of free radical compounds that can cause cellular damage throughout your body – Such free radicals can destroy a cell’s wall or membrane, for example.

By damaging white blood cells, such compounds can weaken your immune response. This phenomenon is known as “oxidative stress,” and over time, it can wreak havoc on every one of your body’s processes. Pine Bark Extract’s high antioxidant content helps remove this stress naturally, giving your immune system a fighting chance.

Instead of taking these supplements separately, I decided to develop a multicomplex that contained full amounts of each ingredient – and used it to build my new Herbal Immunity Defense multi.

Designed To Support Your Immune Health - Naturally

This multivitamin is designed to support your immune health on multiple levels. It aids your body fight off infection and illness by directly increasing the number of white blood cells (especially of the innate system), decreasing oxidative stress, and boosting + enhancing your immune system’s function overall. The ingredients I chose for this multivitamin are designed to improve your health in the following two ways:

First, it helps reestablish and restore your immune system’s healthy, natural function by filling nutritional gaps and relieving oxidative stress.

Then, as you continue taking it, this multi helps support your immune function by giving your body an added boost of nutrition, antioxidants, and powerful antimicrobial and antiviral ingredients.

At Well Theory, our goal is to help you curate a happier, healthier version of yourself – through products designed to help bring your body back in alignment with how it was always supposed to function. We believe that illness, disease, pain, and inflammation don’t exist in a vacuum – every ailment is connected to multiple factors that you can take charge of and adapt to.

In my clinical practice, I’ve learned that making intentional choices about the foods you eat, the environment you live in, and the amount of exercise you get can significantly improve your overall health. As a surgeon, I know that there are appropriate times to use pharmaceuticals and more invasive procedures to improve mobility and wellness. Still, in many cases, my patients have experienced significant improvement in their health and outlook on life with simple, progressive lifestyle changes.

Since its development, I take this Herbal Immunity Defense multi every day and have found that it helps stave away the common seasonal illnesses my family and I typically experience.

I hope that you’ll find this natural option for immunity enhancement is beneficial in your life as it has been for mine.

How PEA May Relieve Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

How PEA May Relieve Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

What Is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune, inflammatory disorder associated with chronic low-grade inflammation. When you have MS, your immune system turns against your own body – eating away at the protective coverings surrounding your nerves. The resulting nerve damage can cause many different symptoms, including pain, vision loss, fatigue, and impaired coordination as communication between the brain and body is disrupted.

Physical therapy and certain medications that help suppress the immune system can be effective against MS symptoms and slow this autoimmune disease’s progression. There are many prescription-grade medications available too. Please seek the evaluation of a neurologist or orthopedic surgeon if you believe you may have this disorder.

Nonetheless, many natural substances have been studied concerning the treatment of symptoms of MS. We have incorporated a few into our products due to the massive benefits that are possible.

What Is PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) ?

the role it plays in inflammation

The analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties of PEA make it a promising supplement for combating the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is produced naturally by the body in response to inflammation and pain. Some research suggests that it engages your body’s natural endocannabinoid or regulatory system to reduce pain and relieve inflammation.

Your endocannabinoid system is essentially what regulates your hormones, your sensation of pain, hunger, anxiety, etc. It also tells your body when to start and end its natural inflammatory processes. Also, the endocannabinoid system plays a large role in the overall balance of your immune system.

Inflammation is a normal part of your body’s healing routines. When you bump against a table, the swelling that occurs is designed to protect the site of injury so it can heal properly. Swelling is a marker of the first phase of healing. This is an average and appropriate amount of inflammation – but when your body produces too much inflammation, it can cause problems.

How PEA Can Relieve MS Symptoms

Today, PEA is available in pill, powder, and capsule form as a natural supplement.

Initial research has shown that PEA may also help support the brain, heart, and, most importantly – immune health. By keeping a more healthy, balanced immune system, there is some potential in some measure of relief from autoimmune symptoms.

By relieving inflammation around the nerves, relieving pain associated with nerve damage, and providing healthy immune function support, PEA shows excellent promise as a natural method of relief for MS pain and symptoms.

This is why we decided to develop PEA products here at Well Theory. We offer two topical creams that contain PEA that is great for soothing away pain quickly in a targeted setting.

For overall wellness and nerve support, we recommend taking our Essential Multivitamin.

Our PEA Essential Multivitamin is explicitly designed to relieve pain in aching muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and fascia while supporting connective tissues and joints’ health and function. It is protective against joint degeneration and naturally reduces inflammation while promoting healing. PEA has shown great promise in reducing neuroinflammation.

What Vitamin D Deficiency Can Do To Your Health

What Vitamin D Deficiency Can Do To Your Health

These days, most of us are not getting the vital nutrients we need from our diets and lifestyle habits. These vitamin deficiencies may seem small but can build up and impact your overall well-being over time. Today, I’d like to talk about how a vitamin D deficiency can affect your health, how to notice signs of such a weakness, and what you can do about it.

What Does Vitamin D Do?

One of vitamin D’s prominent roles is in helping your body absorb calcium. Calcium is the building block of bone. Without the right vitamin D levels, it doesn’t matter how many glasses of milk you drink – you still won’t be absorbing the necessary amount of Calcium, and your bone health will suffer.

This is why, when you look at different types of milk in the grocery store, vitamin D-fortified milk is available for purchase. The Federal Government realized that we do not get enough of this vital nutrient in our regular diets.

In addition to fortifying bones, vitamin D is also essential for maintaining the health of your teeth, facilitating normal immune function, and supporting healthy muscles as well. Overall, it’s an often-overlooked vitamin that plays a significant role in maintaining your overall health.

Vitamin D has essential benefits in muscle function, nervous system function, and cardiovascular balance. This nutrient acts as a steroid hormone and has significant effects on most human functions. It has a broad range of actions that we have only recently discovered. Many of modern society’s chronic diseases are caused, at least in part, by vitamin D deficiencies.

For muscle, vitamin D affects the levels of specific proteins in the muscle fiber itself. It will also change the calcium levels within the muscle’s mitochondria, which affects energy production. With vitamin D deficiency, the muscle will have fewer necessary enzymes as well. A vitamin D deficiency can lead to falls; if this fall happens on a weak bone, a break will occur.

There are receptors for vitamin D on the immune system’s cells; vitamin D plays a massive role in your innate and adaptive immunity. Vitamin D enhances the macrophages’ ability to participate in the initial defense from viruses and other pathogens by helping them produce needed cytokines.

It is common knowledge that infants with Rickets (vitamin D deficiency) have pneumonia more often than others. Extensive population data studies also demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency is associated with susceptibility to respiratory infections. Supplementing vitamin D reduces the ability to catch a respiratory illness.

These are a few examples of our growing knowledge of the importance of this nutrient. vitamin D also plays a role in cancer prevention, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, skin health, inflammatory conditions like MS, and other human problems.

You can get your daily amount of vitamin D in two ways. First, you can absorb it through your skin by exposing yourself to a healthy amount of sunlight. You can, as mentioned previously, get it in your diet as well. Ideally, you should get vitamin D through the foods you eat, but nutritional deficiencies due to diet choices and food availability are common, so you can also supplement. Supplementation is the most efficient and convenient way to get this nutrient.

Typical foods with high vitamin D content are salmon, sardines, shrimp, fortified yogurts, cereals, milk, orange juice, and egg yolks.

Symptoms Of Vitamin D Deficiency

If you feel more tired than usual or have noticeable aches and pains, you may have a vitamin D deficiency. Severe muscle pain or weakness can also indicate a need for more vitamin D in your diet. In the most trying of circumstances, you may feel pain in your bones or even experience stress fractures in your legs, feet, and hips.

Your doctor can diagnose a vitamin D deficiency with a quick blood draw. If you are severely deficient, they may also order X-rays to check the strength of your bones.

Your doctor may recommend an over-the-counter supplement or a high-dose prescribed supplement depending on your deficiency’s severity. Other serum markers might need to be checked to understand your bone metabolism, too. It may be that a full nutritional, hormonal, and metabolic analysis be completed. It may be beneficial to go outside and soak up sun rays also – within reason, as the skin cancer risk must be balanced.

How Much Vitamin D You Need:

The amount of vitamin D you need each day depends on your age and whether you’re breastfeeding or pregnant. Various regulatory groups have decided what standard levels are required to prevent Rickets and osteomalacia; these are the conditions caused by severe deficiencies of vitamin D. The recommended amounts, in international units (IU), are as follows:

  • Adults 19-70 years: 600 IU or 15mcg
  • Adults 71 years and older: 800 IU or 20mcg
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women: 600 IU or 15mcg

If you are supplementing, it may be essential to take a multivitamin that pairs the right vitamins and minerals together in the recommended amounts. For Calcium to be absorbed properly, you need to have the correct vitamin D ratio in your system.

Our CBD Multivitamin was designed by an orthopedic surgeon to optimize your musculoskeletal health – meaning that it is specifically designed to support your bones, muscles, tendons, and joints.

It also contains immune-boosting vitamins and Full Spectrum CBD to support every aspect of your wellness, reduce pain and harmful inflammation, and relieve stress.  CBD has been found to support bone and immune function health, too; this phytochemical can enhance the effect of nutrients like Vitamin D.

The Science Behind Our New Herbal Immunity Defense Multivitamin

The Science Behind Our New Herbal Immunity Defense Multivitamin

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner Here -

These days, many of us aren’t getting all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals we need from our diets. This can lead to a host of problems – weight gain, fatigue, chronic inflammation, and more – but today, I’d like to talk about how nutritional deficiencies can affect your immune function.

I decided to develop my new Herbal Immunity Defense multivitamin to fill these nutritional gaps. This unique supplement is an immune-boosting powerhouse designed to optimize and restore vital immune function - and help you build a foundation for optimal health.

Because most of us do not have private chefs or the time needed to eat all the vegetables and fruits that would give us our best chance of a sound immune system, I have considered supplementation to be one of the best ways to do so. Obtaining all nutrition through diet alone would be fantastic and is the usual recommendation. But most of us live a hectic life in the real world. This is where supplementation with essential and even non-essential nutrients becomes necessary.

Designed To Deliver These Benefits:

My Herbal Immunity Defense multivitamin is designed to deliver immune support in every aspect – through directly boosting white blood cell count, improving nutrition, and reducing overall bodily stress. Each ingredient was handpicked to help revitalize and restore your body’s natural immune function so that you can fight off illness with ease.

This natural + effective supplement supports your healthy immune system by:

  • Promoting healthy antioxidant activity
  • Providing a high potency source of essential nutrients that support the white blood cells
  • Helping to reduce oxidative stress throughout the body
  • Improving the production and communication of cytokines and chemokines
  • Helping to balance right inflammation and reduce lousy inflammation

Plant-Based Ingredients

Why This Surgeon Takes Tart Cherry Extract Every Day

Why This Surgeon Takes Tart Cherry Extract Every Day

Tart Cherry Extract:

why this orthopedic surgeon takes it every day

Hi, Dr. Meredith Warner here:

Tart cherry extract is a convenient and low-calorie way to obtain all the benefits of the tart cherry fruit. It is possible to eat tart cherries and to drink tart cherry juice of course, and I do that occasionally too. But to take a standard amount of tart cherry extract without unhealthy added sugars, I’ve found that a supplement is the best way to take it.

Tart cherry is one of the best natural anti-inflammatories and antioxidants there is. These benefits are specific to tart cherries – not sweet ones. You won’t get these benefits from Bing sweet cherries. Tart cherries usually make your mouth pucker when you eat them. These are the cherries that are traditionally used for cherry pies.

Tart Cherries:

why they're naturally anti-inflammatory + antioxidant

Dark-colored fruits have been found to reduce stress-mediated signaling in animal microglial cells. Microglial cells are support cells for the nervous system – these are the cells that carry pain signals from an injury to the brain, giving you the sensation of pain.

The nervous system is the brain and all of the peripheral nerves along with the spine. By supporting the function of the nervous system, I feel that I am supporting my brain’s health and reducing my chances of having everyday pain.

Pain is normal of course and is part of life, but if I can take a natural and healthy supplement to tamp that down, why wouldn’t I?

Oxidative Stress

what it is + how it impacts your health

Oxidative stress occurs when your body has difficulty breaking down free radicals. For example, when you breathe in, oxygen molecules are broken down. When unpaired electrons, the building blocks of molecules, are released during this process, they can wreak havoc on the body. Your body naturally releases antioxidants to capture these electrons, but a variety of factors can impact your body’s ability to create them. Lifestyle choices, environmental factors such as pollution, and more can impact this process, causing oxidative stress.

Read More: What Is Oxidative Stress?

Oxidative stress in the brain and nervous system leads to pain, decreased cognition and a decline of motor abilities over time. The body has a certain capacity to combat oxidative stress, but this decreases with age along with the lifestyle factors mentioned above. Worse still, oxidative stress generally increases as we age. Therefore, anything that helps us to fight oxidative stress should be explored and considered in my opinion.

Polyphenols, chemicals found naturally in plants, provide such defenses for us. Polyphenols are plant-based compounds that are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Tart cherries have polyphenols that are considered helpful in halting the negative effects of aging.

Tart cherries also have an abundance of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are a polyphenol class and are usually responsible for the rich coloring of fruits and berries. Cyanidin is one of the most plentiful anthocyanins in tart cherries. Tart cherries also produce flavan-3-ols and flavanols. These compounds allow tart cherries to reduce inflammation and to decrease oxidative stress in the brain and throughout the body.

How Oxidative Stress Impacts The Nervous System

“My goal is to help people age better, age fitter, and enjoy their old age. We’re all going to get old. You can’t stop that

Meredith Warner, MD

When assaulted, cells in the nervous system and in the body have an increase in oxidative stress and inflammation. Markers of this stress are NO, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2).

Tart cherry can decrease nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression. In studies that induce inflammation in animals, those pre-treated with tart cherry powders had decreased levels of NO, TNF-alpha and COX-2.

These are just a few reasons why I choose to take a tart cherry supplement every day and recommend it to many of my patients who are looking for less invasive ways of managing their pain. I especially recommend tart cherry supplements to patients struggling with gout, as it has also been shown to help with gout flares; this powerful + natural remedy reduces the damage and pain associated with gout.

Tart cherry has also been found to reduce pain in fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and also in situations with induced oxidative stress and muscle damage. This means that while tart cherry is a great option for treating certain diagnosable conditions, it is also great as a daily supplement to address pain after exercise and other mild aches and pains.

I take tart cherry daily because it has such overwhelming anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities I feel that it will certainly help me to age optimally.

This is why I decided to develop my own Tart Cherry Extract supplement – to give you the same benefits I enjoy every day.

Here’s Why You Should Be Eating Tart Cherries

Here's Why You Should Be Eating Tart Cherries

Tart Cherries For Wellness

how they benefit your overall well-being

For many, pain and inflammation can feel like a regular part of the day. Though this is a normal part of life, this sensitivity and swelling can be controlled in order for you to live your life without being slowed down.

This leads to the issue of finding a healthy solution in a sea of chemical-based supplements and medication. Lucky for you, Dr. Meredith Warner has a natural supplement that can help you find relief.

Today, we’re discussing the healthy benefits of tart cherries.

What Are The Benefits Of Tart Cherries?

First and foremost, tart cherries are a fantastic source of antioxidants. This fruit has a high concentration of anthocyanins, which is a fancy word for plant-based antioxidants.

These anthocyanins help to fight off oxidative stress while also promoting a stronger, healthier cardiovascular system. For those with gout and arthritis, the anthocyanin content in tart cherries can help your tissues to recover while also balancing out uric acid levels in the body.

Tart cherries are also rich in flavonoids. This protects against free radicals and helps to fight inflammation to protect joints and tissue from pain and swelling. This, too, helps to strengthen the cardiovascular system, relieve pain, and support a healthy and active lifestyle.

In addition to pain relief and antioxidant support, tart cherries deliver a natural dose of melatonin that can help you to fall asleep fast and rest more deeply. This is essential to help your body recharge and recover after finishing a long day.

There are many other possible benefits of tart cherries, including improving brain health and immunity, lowering blood pressure, and even protecting against cancer. These effects have not been researched as deeply, but the antioxidant benefits and vitamin content of tart cherries have been shown to promote these results.

You can get all of the benefits of tart cherries in a few different ways: eating fresh tart cherries, drinking tart cherry juice, or taking a daily tart cherry supplement. When looking for fresh tart cherries, look out for the bright red color or the cherry as opposed to dark, sweet cherries that contain drastically less benefits. Also be aware that some tart cherry juices can contain added sugars, sometimes in dramatic amounts – so unsweetened juices, or pure extracts, are also your best choice.

Get These Benefits With Ease

Dr. Meredith Warner, the founder of Well Theory, has released another fantastic supplement to add to your daily wellness regimen. These new Tart Cherry Extract supplements are formulated for daily recovery and antioxidant support.

Our capsules are packed with one ingredient only: tart cherry.

Take one capsule daily to promote joint, cardiovascular, and oxidative health as well as pain relief and restfulness.

Get all of the benefits of fresh tart cherries without the extra sugar and calories.

For those with arthritis, gout, or other inflammatory conditions, you can find relief and comfort with this natural daily supplement. Order today!

PEA and Chronic Pain

PEA and Chronic Pain

PEA and Stubborn Pain

find a natural option for relief

Hi, Dr. Warner here again –

Today I want to discuss the use of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) for recurring pain and inflammation.

Neuroinflammation, or an inflammatory condition of the central nervous system, is now being thought of as the source of chronic pain. This is the common mechanism of many central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Chronic pain is one central nervous system disorder, as are Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease, and others.

Most current pharmaceuticals and other treatments for pain follow a neuronal cell target plan – that is, they target the neurons themselves and not the supporting cells of the nervous system. The supporting cells are far more numerous. Today, it is thought that the neuroinflammation causing most disorders is actually damaging the surrounding supporting cells of the central nervous system rather than the neurons themselves.

Supporting cells include Glial cells, microglia, astrocytes, and others. Microglia cells are especially active in neuroinflammation. Like most cells and systems in the human body, balance is necessary for the proper function of the microglia. Too little activation results in less recovery of injury in the CNS, and too much activation can induce autoimmune responses and neural death. Glia represent the link between chronic pain and neuroinflammation.

Neuropathic Pain Responses Within the Body

Neuropathic pain is almost untreatable and results in recurring pain. This is from damage, degeneration, or dysfunction in the sensory system. Neuropathic pain is considered with spinal cord injury, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, stroke, cancer, and other metabolic problems. Neuropathic pain is dependent on supporting structures of the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).

Microglia are activated in the face of injury or infection in order to bring immune cells to the CNS and PNS. This allows the immune system to fight off the infection, remove damaged cells, clean up reactive oxygen species. However, persistently active microglial cells will eventually cause cognitive issues and chronic pain through pathological functions.

To make a long explanation shorter – microglial cells lead to peripheral and central sensitization and inflammatory and neuropathic pain because of the over-release of TNF-alpha and IL-1Beta. These neuromodulators are produced after injury or infection of peripheral and central nerves. This means that such recurring pain is actually a result of imbalance in the immune system.

The immune system is activated to aid the nervous system when the microglial cells ask for help. The microglial cells are always surveying at the cellular level. When pathogens or injury are discovered, cytokines are released that call in the immune cells to clean up and fight off the pathogenic insult. This promotes an inflammatory response which creates neurotoxins. The neurotoxins in turn induce more inflammation. Without a good system to control the toxins produced during the treatment of the pathogen or injury to the nervous system, neuroinflammation will occur.

Tools for Treating Your Pain

There are many pharmaceutical companies striving to make mass-produced synthetic drugs to treat this source of chronic pain, neural inflammation, and other disorders. However, there are natural substances already available that have been safely used for years that are also available.

If you believe in empowering patients to treat themselves, as I do, then you must give them the tools to build up their internal systems that protect against neuroinflammation. Lipid mediators have shown to have the ability to protect against neuroinflammation. The level and actions of these important natural lipid molecules are lower in chronic inflammatory states (such as chronic pain). Among these amazing and natural lipid mediators are the N-acetylethanolamines (NAE). These are natural compounds made on-demand in our bodies at the lipid bilayer of cells. They are made of a fatty acid and an organic ethanolamine compound.

The reason that cannabidiol (CBD) and medical marijuana work is not because they themselves perform the actions that reduce the symptoms of inflammatory disorders.

Rather, CBD simply increases the amount of available anandamide, one of these NAEs. Another very important and very active NAE is palmitoylethanolamide, or PEA.

PEA protects the nervous system and can control chronic pain. PEA is an endogenous molecule that maintains balance within the cells during neurodegenerative and inflammatory conditions. PEA is a natural way to counterattack neuroinflammation, pain, and neuronal damage.

PEA beneficially modifies the activities of the microglial cells during the pathogenic attacks on the CNS or PNS. This is just one of the proposed mechanisms of action of this normal, naturally occurring fatty acid compound.

Well Theory: Fight Your Pain, Naturally

Our new Well Theory PEA products are formulated with natural compounds such as CBD to help you find relief from recurring pain easily.
