Over the past few years, CBD has become an incredibly popular product. CBD has been infused into vitamins, oils, lotions and everything else you can imagine!

Before you start investing in CBD based products, it’s important to understand what CBD is and how it works.

What is CBD?

CBD has been making waves in the scientific, medical, and natural medicine communities for quite some time. 

It’s a controversial compound only because of its association with the better-known cousin, THC. THC is an active compound from the marijuana plant that has psychoactive properties. 

Because of the fact that CBD and THC essentially coexist in the same type of plant, there have been misunderstandings surrounding CBD, its usage, and side effects.  

To be clear, CBD is not psychoactive.

What is CBD

The 2018 Farm Bill

Recently, there has been growing acceptance of this non-psychoactive molecule. Today, CBD has become fully legal and more broadly accepted in the US. The 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law which made industrial hemp-derived CBD (cannabidiol) legal in the United States. 

Furthermore, the interstate transport and commerce of CBD and industrial hemp is fully legal nationally. The definition of legal industrial hemp is any hemp plant with less than 0.3% THC content. 

At this time, hemp-derived CBD products that contain less than 0.3% THC are now legal in the United States at the federal level and in many states as well.

FDA Approval

The FDA has approved a patented form of isolated CBD to treat two severe forms of epilepsy. Some states have approved CBD for relieving symptoms with other conditions as well:   Whole herb and naturally extracted hemp and phytocannabinoids from hemp are currently regulated under the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act by the FDA – therefore, none of these are ever to be ‘approved’ by the FDA. Rather, they will be allowed. The USDA regulates the growing and processing of hemp. At this time, the DEA has fully abdicated all regulation of CBD and considers it basically a simple herb; the DEA and the Federal Government do not consider CBD to be a drug in any way.

Since the Farm bill of 2018, new products have flooded the market. Many companies’ messaging and labeling make it difficult for to understand what products contain CBD and how much. More importantly, consumers need to know which products contain traces of THC, contaminants, and adulterants that “water down” the final product.

CBD vs THC

Cannabidiol (CBD) and Marijuana (THC) are both considered to be of the Cannabis sativa plant.  Marijuana and CBD are derived from the same classification and type of plant; The marijuana producing version of sativa produces more tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) than cannabidiol. 

THCA is the precursor chemical that eventually produces the psychoactive effects sought after in recreational marijuana. Technically, THC is actually made from THCA after decarboxylation; but regardless, THC comes from a phytochemical in the marijuana plant.  

In order to reap the psychoactive effects of THCA one must process and heat it; this converts THCA into THC. 

CBD, on the other hand, is not psychoactive at all.  Rather, it is a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant that interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. 

A recent report from the World Health Organization, a highly respected global public health body, confirmed that CBD has no addictive or psychoactive effects: “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” The WHO removed CBD from its list of substances to avoid a long time ago.

Since the hemp plant has been bred to produce more CBD than the marijuana plant; it is a great candidate for synthesizing hemp CBD oil.  To be able to produce Industrial Hemp in the United States, the USDA must approve a farm’s ‘grow plan.’ The crops are typically inspected and tested often to ensure compliance with regulatory processes. 

CBD must have under 0.3% THC on average. If it contains more than 0.3% government considers it to be marijuana and the crop is destroyed.

How is CBD Oil Made

CBD is one of hundreds of active plant-based chemicals within the industrial hemp plant. This means that CBD and other beneficial phytochemicals must be synthesized from the plant itself before it can be used in medical or therapeutic applications. This extraction is done through a variety of processes; here are some common methods:

  • Carbon Dioxide Extraction: This is sometimes the preferred method of CBD extraction. It is the most expensive way to extract CBD, but often results in the highest pure concentration. During this extraction process, multiple pressurized chambers and pumps are used to expose CO2 to high pressure and low temperatures. CO2 is pumped into a pressurized chamber that contains hemp. This CO2 breaks down the hemp plant, separating the oil from the plant. The CO2 and oil are then pumped into another chamber, then the CO2 evaporates – leaving pure extracted CBD. 
  • Steam Distillation: With steam distillation, CBD is extracted with steam and a condenser tube. First, water is boiled beneath the hemp. The steam travels into a flask where the hemp is located and pulls out oil in the plant containing CBD. The vapors are then captured in a tube that condenses them into an oil.
  • Solvent Extraction: Solvent extraction is similar to steam distillation, but requires mixing with a solvent.  This process is called ‘maceration’. Maceration phytochemical are pulled out of the plant. They bond with the solvent and the solvent is evaporated. 

Researching the purity of the CBD in the products you buy is very important. Most products have been treated as supplements, which means that the FDA does not regulate their purity or concentration. When purchasing products, you should look for CGMP-certified packaging. 

Manufacturers must list the exact concentration and amount of product inside of a bottle. Testing of the product is also important and you should look for testing data. Reputable vendors will likely have 3rd party lab testing results readily available for their consumers. If the vendor cannot provide lab testing, consider another source.

It’s important to be certain what amount you’re taking. This is especially true if you are taking it under the guidance of a medical professional or with other medications. This way you can accurately determine if it’s is helping to improve your condition, or if you need to change another aspect of your care.  It is also important to consider CBD interactions with other medications.

What Does CBD Do?

CBD is easily obtained in most of the United States, and it has seen a boom in skincare and wellness product lines in recent years. 

It has been touted for many benefits, including but not limited to:

But how does CBD work?

Your body is regulated by something called the endocannabinoid system. It is a network of receptors and substances that attach to those receptors that direct the regulation of hormones, sleep, temperature, appetite, immune and inflammatory response, and more. Your body naturally produces ligands to the endocannabinoid receptors, called endocannabinoids, to bind and exert effects. The combination of the endocannabinoids and the receptors is the actual endocannabinoid system.

CBD is a phytocannabinoid and therefore is able to modulate and affect the human endocannabinoid receptors. That is, this natural plant-based product exerts a natural effect on the human system. This is similar to how coffee works. Coffee provides natural plant-based phytochemicals that attach to receptors in our body and promotes wakefulness.

CBD and other hemp-derived phytochemicals have a strong ability to modulate function of the nervous system and to allow better neural and cognitive balance. The most well-documented study surrounding it’s effectiveness in relieving the symptoms of a neurological condition is its clinical use for epileptic patients. 

Since the 1970’s, it has been used in animal trials to combat seizure activity, and based on this research, it was utilized in human trials as well. Two trials targeting patients with severe epileptic seizures were successful, with the frequency of seizure activity increasing dramatically or, in some cases, ceasing altogether.   

Much of this research came about as the result of parents actively engaged in their children’s conditions; the government eventually was convinced of the benefits.   

There are numerous instances of clinical and preclinical evidence that point towards CBD being effective in decreasing symptoms from other conditions. CBD is known for having neuroprotective, antipsychotic, analgesic (pain-relieving), antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. 

In common ailments, such as anxiety, depression, and arthritis, CBD has been shown to reduce stress, prevent restlessness, improve concentration, and reduce inflammation, thereby improving those conditions. 

Basically, it merely optimizes the function of the human body and is a natural way to improve wellness.

CBD also has activity for depression by modulating molecular release of neurotransmitters in the brain; one of these molecules is serotonin.

Low serotonin levels in the body are associated with higher risk of depression, and while it does not increase serotonin levels directly, it can affect how your brain responds to the serotonin already in your body. 

It has also been shown to have fewer side effects than other antidepressant medication, which makes it a great, safe, natural option to bring up in your next doctor’s appointment.

Arthritis typically comes in two forms – Osteoarthritis, and Rheumatoid (inflammatory) Arthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is typically an age-related condition that occurs as the cartilage between the joints begins to break down over time. 

OA may also occur from a life filled with the inflammation of diet and environment.  Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease.

With RA, inflammation is caused by the immune system attacking the joints in the body, and is not necessarily age-related. CBD can help relieve the symptoms of arthritis by binding to pain receptors in the body, reducing their response to stimuli. 

CBD’s ability to bind to endocannabinoid receptors throughout the body allows it to possibly block or lessen an inflammatory response, thereby reducing inflammation in the joints. CBD has the ability to bind to leukocytes, white blood cells, and reduce the overall amount of inflammation.

A study in the European Journal of Pain used animal trials to see if CBD could relieve symptoms associated with arthritis, when applied topically. The results noted a significant drop in inflammation and reduced the sensation of pain.

Other studies have shown that it is an effective treatment for pain in adults, and also found that subjects were unlikely to build up a tolerance to CBD’s effects. Additionally, even with very high doses, safety of this herbal remedy has been demonstrated. 

There are a large amount of positive animal studies demonstrating the power to reduce pain as well.

Osteoporosis is generally an age-related condition that affects some 200 million people worldwide at a given time. Its symptoms include brittle bones, back pain, fragility fractures, stooped posture and more. An animal study showed that CBD was able to prevent bone loss and improve bone density.

One of the receptors that is engaged – CB2 – has been shown to regulate bone density by engaging the body’s ability to produce cells that heal or form bone material. Because of this, the CB2 molecular receptor is a promising “target for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, the most prevalent degenerative disease in developed countries.”

How is CBD Used?

If you’ve tried everything to combat your pain, inflammation, anxiety, and more – and are looking for a natural option – CBD may be right for you. 

But with so many products on the market, it can be difficult to find out which formulation is right for your specific condition. 

Products range from concentrated oils, creams, vitamins and more. 

Their effects are different depending on the concentration, what additional active ingredients are in the product itself, and what its intended application is.

Topical Applications

This is probably the most common way to use CBD. CBD is mixed into skincare or topical pain relief formulas, like creams or convenient sprays, for ease of application. When applied topically, it is said to interact with the endocannabinoid receptors under the skin, which helps the product target pain in a specific area.

  • Creams: CBD creams or medical-grade pain-relieving creams with other ingredients like lidocaine or menthol are great options for targeted, daily relief. Incorporate them into your morning or evening routine to stop pain in its tracks before it starts. 
  • Sprays: CBD sprays are great options for soothing inflammation on the go. Quick absorption through the skin allows for fast relief to take effect. The spray provides an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant treatment for the skin and structures underneath.
  • Patches: CBD patches are small adhesive patches that slowly release through the skin. These patches are thought to help it cross the dermal barrier over a certain amount of time. It’s a great option for convenient application, as the patches are usually designed to slowly release the active herb over a certain length of time.
  • Oils: Concentrated CBD oil can be applied topically. As it is usually the purest and most concentrated form available, it will have a stronger effect when applied.  Oils are protective for the skin, but there may not be as deep of penetration.

Internal Application

CBD can be put into products like oils, edibles or food for fast absorption. Ingestion allows the compound to be absorbed 

  • Oils: Certain concentrated oils can be ingested in addition to being applied topically; it is important to read the labeling to make sure your oil has been lab-tested and to verify the concentration of CBD.  Usually, it is recommended that an oil or tincture be applied under the tongue for its best absorption. 
  • Multivitamins:  Some CBD vitamins have incorporated hemp in an effort to harness the power of this herb.  This method uses a hemp-based dried extract of the phytochemicals. 
  • Edibles: CBD can be added to food and drinks as well. The FDA has issued guidance against this in 2019. You can add oils and tinctures to smoothies, salads, baked goods, and more. Typically, you want to avoid heating the oil too much, as it could change the taste or lessen its effects. Though in a smaller concentration than taking oil directly (sublingually) , food or drink-infused CBD will allow for absorption in the bloodstream through the lining of the stomach.
  • Vaporizing: CBD can also be inhaled using a vaporizer. This device heats up a concentrate so that it can be inhaled. CBD is absorbed quickly through the lungs, making its effects almost immediate as it enters the bloodstream instantly. However, these effects are the most short-lived of all consumption options, which means that you’d have to take more doses for a continued effect. In addition, breathing an oil is usually not recommended for overall lung health. 

Which Form is Right For You?

Depending on your condition and needs, you can choose one, or many, different forms of application. 

There are an abundance of products on the market, so you have a wide variety of options from which to choose. 

The most important thing you have to do is verify the source, ingredients, concentration, and extraction method used to obtain the CBD in the products you buy – so you can be certain you’re getting what you paid for.

Risks & Side Effects of CBD

While CBD is shown to have remarkably fewer risks and side effects than traditional medicine, there are some possible risks you need to be aware of. 

It’s important to verify the purity and concentration you’re taking. There are many products available for purchase, and as most are considered supplements, they are not tightly regulated by the FDA. 

To be certain that you are having a reaction to CBD and not a filler ingredient, it’s important to read labels and verify that the product you’re using is CGMP (certified good manufacturing process) certified.

CBD Side Effects

Most Common Side Effects of CBD

The most commonly reported side effect of taking CBD is tiredness or some level of somnolence. 

You may feel drowsy depending on your dosage amount or your method of dosage (ingestion or vaping would have a more immediate, and stronger, effect.) Some experts recommend not taking CBD before operating heavy machinery.  

 

Some people have also reported gastrointestinal issues, including but not limited to nausea, diarrhea, changes in appetite, or changes in their weight, especially if they have ingested CBD. Other common side effects of taking CBD include dry mouth, low blood pressure, or light-headedness. 

 

At the moment, the only FDA  approved pharmaceutical drug containing CBD is a prescription called Epidiolex. It’s an anti-convulsant medication, and used to treat two types of epilepsy. 

It is the only form of CBD that has been overtly approved  for children. This CBD-based drug has been found to have the following adverse effects in clinical trials:

 

  • Liver problems
  • Irritability, lethargy, mood swings, or increased depression and anxiety
  • Gastrointestinal problems, including nausea and reduced appetite
  • Reduced urination
  • Rashes and other topical reactions

The liver side-effect of this medication was determined from elevated transaminase levels.  As well, the doses required to elevate the liver enzymes were very high. 

There was no evidence of any long-term liver damage in these studies.

What You Need to Know Before You Take It

If you are taking any medications, it is important to speak with your physician before including CBD in your daily regimen. It has been known to  affect the activity of certain CP450 enzymes, which are found in the liver. 

These enzymes are responsible for metabolizing drugs intended for human ingestion; therefore, using CBD may reduce or interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications.   

It is recommended to take the ‘grapefruit’ test when considering CBD. Grapefruit is known to interfere with liver metabolism of medications and CBD has a similar effect.

  • Steroids
  • Antihistamines
  • HIV antivirals
  • Immune modulators
  • Antibiotics
  • NSAIDs
  • Beta blockers

The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of which drugs could possibly react negatively or be inhibited by CBD use. 

Only your physician will be able to tell you if you are at risk. 

CBD Products

CBD comes in many different formulations and concentrations, and you can learn a lot about your product by the way your product is labelled. 

Generally, you will find that CBD products are labelled in three different manners:

  • Full Spectrum
  • Isolate
  • Broad Spectrum

Depending on your needs, you may want to incorporate only one concentration, or apply different concentrations for separate conditions.

Full Spectrum CBD

Full Spectrum CBD extracts a full profile of cannabinoids and terpenes. 

It is also known as “whole plant CBD,” and will contain a small amount of THC. However, especially if your CBD is sourced from the hemp plant, it will still fall within the regulated .03% THC range and therefore will not have any psychoactive effects. 

If you obtain full spectrum CBD from hemp that is grown in a state where recreational marijuana is legal, you should double check the amounts of THC from the company’s certificate of analysis.

CBD Isolate

CBD Isolate is the most concentrated and isolated form of CBD available. It results from a process that fully removes any terpenes, cannabinoids, or other ingredients to leave behind 99% CBD. 

Usually this is tasteless and less oily than traditional hemp oil or CBD oil. 

Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad Spectrum CBD offers a middle ground between Full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. It is initially a full spectrum product, and then refined to remove most if not all traces of THC. 

Unlike CBD isolate, this process does leave behind the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes found in Full Spectrum CBD.

Terpenes and Cannabinoids

Terpenes and cannabinoids are beneficial compounds found naturally in the hemp plant. Terpenes are the compound that create the scent and flavor of the cannabis plant. They are produced in the flowers and leaves of the plant, and are the main elements that create essential oils in plants. 

They have been found to have physiological effects and can, much like the CBD compound, bind to cannabinoid receptors in your body. Different terpene profiles can influence your mood and more. 

For example, lavender essential oil contains linalool, and has calming effects. Citrus-based terpenes can uplift your mood and energize you. 

Many of these same terpenes are found in the hemp-plant and are partially responsible for the health benefits of the herb.

Different Methods for Different Results

The hemp plant not only contains CBD or trace amounts of THC – it also contains many other cannabinoids, all of which have the ability to bind to your body’s cannabinoid receptors or modify their function and possibly exert therapeutic effects. 

Different compounds can have the ability to address a wide range of symptoms and conditions.

Now that you know the differences between how CBD is extracted, and what different extraction types can offer, there are some other things you should keep in mind when deciding on a product to try.

What to Look for in CBD Products

Most CBD products are classified as supplements, which the FDA does not regulate at the same level as a pharmaceutical drug. However, you can choose CBD products that are FDA registered and follow CGMP guidelines. 

This means that the ingredients and amounts of each ingredient that are listed on the bottle – are what’s actually inside your product. In addition, if the CBD is made in a factory in the USA that is FDA-registered, it is less likely to be a counterfeit or fraudulent product. This is a problem with foreign sourced CBD and even generic drug products.

With this information (cGMP and tested), you will know exactly how much CBD is in your product. If you are testing dosage amounts to see if a higher amount of CBD is more effective in addressing a particular condition, this is crucial to your wellness journey.

Having access to accurate labelling is also important if you are choosing a product that contains other active ingredients – such as a multivitamin, lotion, or pain relieving cream or spray. 

You’ll be better able to understand the ingredients and make sure you’re only incorporating supplements you intended to use. Accurate labelling allows you to bring the product’s information to your physician, so you can make sure that it will not interact negatively with any other medication you are taking.

You also want to make sure that your CBD products are 3rd party-tested. This means that the manufacturer has hired an outside lab to conduct testing on their products, and provide a report assuring the quality and concentration of their ingredients. 

This helps the seller to ensure that the information received from their ingredients source is accurate, and also helps you, the consumer, affirm the purity of the ingredients in the products you are considering. Since the testing is not done in-house, you can be sure that the results are not biased and are completely accurate.

Reputable CBD merchants will either have their 3rd party lab test results listed on their website, or readily available for download/viewing. If you don’t see 3rd party lab test results listed on their website, send the company an email or call to request them for your peace of mind.

Well Theory products are all third-party tested and FDA-registered so you can be certain of the purity and quality of the ingredients in each formulation. How to Choose The Right Products

Because CBD has been in legal “limbo” for so long, regulations on CBD products are few and far between. This has led to a rise in low quality products that have inaccurate labelling – such as claiming to have a higher CBD concentration than the product actually does. For example – recently, a California testing company chose CBD products from the market at random. Only 3 of 20 were what they were supposed to be. 

Due to the sheer number of CBD products on the market now available – found anywhere from gas stations to grocery stores – the task of choosing a single brand or product can seem daunting. Here are a couple things you should be looking for when choosing a CBD product to incorporate into your wellness routine.

Choose Products That are cGMP Compliant

cGMP compliance means that the product you’re purchasing has been verified by the FDA to contain the ingredients indicated on the label. In addition, the production facility has to comply with basic health and hygiene requirements.

"This formal system of controls at a pharmaceutical company, if adequately put into practice, helps to prevent instances of contamination, mix-ups, deviations, failures, and errors. This assures that drug products meet their quality standards.”

Choose CBD Products That Were 3rd Party Tested

Third party testing ensures complete honesty between the CBD brand and you, the consumer. A neutral 3rd party lab will test the products for purity and quality of the ingredients, and the accuracy of the product’s label.

If the CBD merchant you’re considering buying products from has had 3rd party testing done, they almost certainly will have those reports available for you upon request.  

Making quality CBD and then performing accurate testing is very cost-prohibitive, so that will help you narrow down which companies you choose for sourcing your CBD products.  

If a product seems to be priced well below the average, it is probably of poor quality.

If you’ve made it this far, you have all the tools you need to safely and responsibly choose the CBD formulations that will be most helpful for your condition, or most suitable for your lifestyle. 

In 2018, the Farm Bill legalized the industrial hemp plant (which is considered any cannabis derivative that contains less than .3% THC, which is the psychoactive component in marijuana.) However, CBD itself is still in limbo. 

This is largely due to the fact that CBD can be synthesized from both the hemp plant and the marijuana plant. While it is easier to obtain CBD from the industrial hemp plant, as it exists in higher concentrations in that particular source, this does make CBD legalization complicated in the eyes of lawmakers. 

Basically all of the legal conundrums are due to the fact that law enforcement can’t find a way to differentiate hemp oil from marijuana oil in the field easily.

By 2022, CBD could be an estimated $22 billion market, which is making CBD producers and brands that utilize CBD pack on the pressure for legislation to make their industry fully legal with fewer restrictions.  

At the same time, the pharmaceutical industry is lobbying to make sure that CBD stays in the prescription drug world; this would likely make it even more valuable.

In the midst of this, the FDA is still conducting research on CBD and releasing its findings to the public. At the moment, only one CBD drug product has been approved by the FDA – the epilepsy medication used to control seizures mentioned in a previous section of this guide. 

There are thousands of non-drug products that use either extracts or whole herb processing to provide the phytochemical to people.  

This does not mean that therapeutic CBD outside this particular medication (Epidiolex) is illegal. It just means that the FDA has not approved it or fully researched the product’s claims. 

This means that many of the CBD products’ labels on the market are not being regulated by the FDA – so the claims they make in their marketing campaigns, what percentage of the product contains CBD, etc., is called into question. 

There are a lot of products on the market that do not comply even with the basic requirements for cosmetic products. 

“Unlike the FDA-approved CBD drug product, unapproved CBD products, which could include unapproved drugs, cosmetics, foods, and products marketed as dietary supplements, have not been subject to FDA evaluation regarding whether they are effective to treat a particular disease or have other effects that may be claimed.”

CBD merchants looking to legitimize their products can instead follow something called “current Good Manufacturing Practice” (cGMP.) This is a guideline established by the FDA in 2007 that requires each batch of products to be tested for identity, purity, strength, and composition.

Essentially, products that follow these guidelines have to make sure what’s on the label is actually inside the product – which allows you, the consumer, to make decisions about what amount and type of CBD to include in your wellness routine. 

At this time, as with all supplements and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, it is up to the consumer to determine dosage amount, risk, and other factors related to consumption. What CBD Products Should You Choose?

Even with all these factors to help you narrow your decisions down, the CBD market is massive and thankfully, there are many options to choose from. A few of these options include:

  • Oils. Typically used for ingestion, but can also be applied topically. 
  • Patches. Designed to deliver the benefits of CBD through the skin over time – through the duration of wear.
  • Topical Creams, Sprays. Ideal for morning routines and for addressing symptoms like pain, irritation, and more the moment they appear. 
  • Supplements. Usually paired with other essential vitamins + nutrients, CBD multivitamins help revitalize your body from the inside out. Taken as part of a daily routine, CBD multivitamins release their benefits slowly over time to provide lasting improvements to your health.
  • Vaping. Believed to be the fastest method of absorbing CBD, vaporizers are used to quickly deliver the benefits of CBD to the bloodstream by heating concentrated cannabis oil until it becomes a vapor that can be inhaled. With recent news of vaping-related illnesses, however, this method of taking CBD has come under scrutiny.  Many physicians do not believe that vaping is a good way to take CBD.

Take your daily CBD multivitamin to improve your overall health, reduce inflammation and discomfort in muscles, bones, joints, and more.  Many take CBD under the tongue as well; this allows fast and complete absorption.
  • Afternoon: Take a break from work and use a CBD topical spray to relieve inflammation and pain  in your joints and muscles – especially if you have a desk job. Get up, stretch, and walk around the office a few times or walk to a nearby restaurant or grocery store to pick up a healthy lunch. Simple and small routines like this go a long way in improving your overall health!  Do not sit all day long; it is important to get up and move. CBD topical sprays and creams are helpful, but movement is even better.
  • Evening: If you hit the gym after work, use a topical CBD cream to relieve sore muscles and “freshen up” a bit with added aloe vera and a gentle blend of aromatic essential oils. As you wind down for the night, you can put a few drops of CBD oil into an evening glass of tea, or use it in conjunction with your other cosmetic products as you wash your face, brush your teeth, and get ready for bed.

As with all new habits, the first couple weeks or so are difficult – it can be hard to remember when and where to incorporate your new routine.
