Warning Signs You’re Not Moving Enough: And How To Fix It
Hi, I’m Dr. Meredith Warner – the founder of Well Theory.
As an orthopedic surgeon, I see the consequences of decreased mobility for people every day. As we get older, it becomes more difficult to move as much as we used to.
Likewise, as we get older we simply stop moving as much and this becomes a self-feeding cycle of inactivity.
This is concerning because that is a time of life we need to ensure we’re maintaining our mobility. And the best way to maintain function for the body is to use it regularly.
For optimal aging, movement with strength and some flexibility is needed.
If you toss and turn at night and still wake up exhausted, looking for caffeine – you probably aren’t moving enough in your day-to-day life.
Whenever you exercise, you wear your body out, which primes it for restful and restorative sleep. Inactivity is a well-known way to disrupt or prevent normal sleep.
A study on the relationship between sleep and exercise suggested that “sleep and exercise exert substantial positive effects on one another,” meaning that good exercise improved sleep, and good rest gave participants the ability to exercise more.
To get a jump start on this, we recommend our Tart Cherry Extract supplement. Tart cherries are highly antioxidant, which helps reduce damaging free radicals in the body. Free radicals can lead to oxidative stress, which may contribute to restless sleep, fatigue, and more – making it difficult for you to want to get up and exercise in the morning.
This supplement also naturally contains melatonin to promote restful sleep.
If you’re spending a lot of time in your bed, on the couch, or in your office chair, you’re going to find yourself waking up with back pain – particularly low back pain.
You may even begin to feel pain as you sit at your desk or while you’re up and moving. If you don’t have any sort of underlying conditions that may be contributing to your back pain, lack of movement is likely the main contributing factor.
Try some stretches in the morning to alleviate some of the pain and get your body moving.
If you’re having difficulty getting moving in the mornings, give our Pain Relief + Recovery cream a try. You can safely apply this to your back, knees, shoulder, and more – anywhere you’re feeling tension.
This body cream is designed to help relax and recover myofascial tissues so you can improve your range of motion in ligaments and muscles while cooling away pain with anti-inflammatory ingredients like PEA, essential oils, and menthol.
If you feel like you’ve been getting sick more often than you used to, a sedentary lifestyle may be to blame. A recent study found that “Acute exercise is an immune system adjuvant that improves defense activity and metabolic health.”
In addition, this study also indicated that regular exercise may “delay the onset of age-related dysfunction.” This confirms what physicians know in practice – the more you move, the more mobility you maintain.
Exercise can help keep you from getting sick, but in the meantime, there are ways you can naturally boost your immune function. I recommend taking my CBD Multivitamin and Herbal Immunity Defense together for maximum immune support.
Our CBD Immunity Multi improves your immune health with clinical dosing of essential vitamins and minerals while reducing inflammation by engaging your endocannabinoid system. The ingredients in our Herbal Immunity Defense are hand-picked to be taken with your daily multivitamin to bolster your immune system and fight off invaders.
