What You Need To Know About Traveling With CBD
Our CBD products are easy to work into your daily routine – but your routine will shift while traveling. If you have a flight or a road trip coming up, here’s what you need to know about traveling with CBD – and which products we recommend you take with you.
Hemp-derived CBD that has a THC content below 0.3% is legal in all 50 states thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. The FDA still has reservations about how CBD can be used in certain supplements, cosmetics, foods, etc., but CBD in and of itself is legal.
Most states align with federal regulations. However, a few states still have full or partial regulations regarding the purchase of CBD products. It’s essential to check the local regulations in the place you’re going to. Some states require that you have a diagnosed medical condition and a note from your doctor. Others have few, if any, restrictions at all. You can view laws on a state-by-state basis here.
You can legally fly with CBD in your carry-on luggage alongside medical marijuana – just be sure to check the laws in the state you’re traveling to:
“Marijuana and certain cannabis-infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law, except for products that contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA. (See the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, Pub. L. 115-334.) TSA officers are required to report any suspected violations of law to local, state, or federal authorities.” Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines
If you’re traveling internationally, it’s up to you to determine whether or not CBD is legal in the country you’re visiting. You should be able to fly domestically with no issue – as long as your CBD product stays within 3.4 oz or less.
Not all CBD is extracted from hemp. CBD can be extracted from marijuana. If you’re going on a road trip or flying domestically, you’ll want to take CBD with you as long as it’s only extracted from hemp.
To be extra cautious, you can bring your products certificate of analysis with you. Reputable CBD brands will have COA’s available for download.
If you are pulled aside by the TSA for additional questioning at the airport, having this paperwork on hand will speed the process.
Since airports have a restriction on liquids, but there are no restrictions for vitamins, it may be better for you to bring CBD with you in pill form. Our CBD Multivitamin and CBD Softgels are both excellent, hassle-free options for travel. If you’re used to taking CBD Oil, try our Softgels instead so you don’t run the risk of spills as your toiletries bag gets jostled in the car or overhead luggage compartment.
